I was going to buy a tactical style shotgun but I came across this old slugster for free. as you can see it needs to be completely redone. Im going to start with rebluing. Any quick advice one how to sand the rust off and reblue the barrel and what tools and material Ill need? I figure this will be a good learning progect.

Take the sights off the barrel first, it makes it easier to use steel wool on the rust. Start with 00 steel wool if it's heavy rust, otherwise go to 000 or 0000. Do the same for the mag tube. The receiver is aluminum, so just clean it with a liquid grime breaker. If you feel comfortable taking the s/g completely apart (it's easy), wash out the aluminum receiver with hot, hot water and a mild detergent.
I have a few wood buttstocks to replace the one you have if needed.
As for bluing, there are many threads on this forum that give detailed directions for various cold bluing and alternate methods. Just try a search.

Forget everything until you replace the damaged stock. Electrical tape fixes nothing.
Depending on how badly it's rusted, use a fine, brass, wire wheel in a bench grinder or rotary tool. Surface rust will come right off. Eye protection is mandatory.

I used the picture to do a before and after thing. It was used as an old barn gun. What I plan on is putting a tactical type stock and pump after I take care of the rust. But as an Electrician nothing beats a good roll of magic tape.;)
