I bought a Mossy 395KA 12gauge last year from the buy/sell forum here and have yet been able to shoot this. The problem is that when the trigger is pulled, either nothing happens or sometimes if you count to five, then the round fires. Not the safest!

Anyways here's the bigger problem, the gun has been at a gunsmiths for the majority of time since I bought it, probably about ten of the 12 months and he is still saying that he can't get the parts and isn't quiet sure what the problem is in the first place. I've found a complete bolt assembly in the states for $75usd, which is almost what I paid for the gun in the first place but I'd really like to fix it up. Can anyone let me in on any secrets to this gun that might fix it up without droping another $100.00 on a gun I've never shot?

Thanks and have a nice day!

I got one off my dad after his stroke and I was going to shoot it for fun one day and just trying to put the bolt into the reciever, it separated into two pieces.

Did you have this trouble too?

These guns are not that complicated. If your gunsmith can't figure it out, you need a new smith. It sounds like the bolt needs to be disassembled and cleaned.

I think I had the bolt on my 20ga apart when I first bought it MD, when I get a chance I'll get it out and see if I can describe to you how to put it back together. I'm heading out soon and will be gone for the rest of the weekend, so it won't be till late Sunday or probably Monday.

I'm going to pick it up from the smith, hopefully on Monday and try to do a thorough cleaning on it myself first. Any idea where I can get a schematics of the bolt, I've never had to disasemble a bolt before. (Only bolt gun I own). Thanks

X2 There's not much to these. I sold a perfectly functioning one for $55 not long ago. havlinsales.com for all the parts you need. Great to deal with, and very knowledgeable.

You shoudn't need to completely disassemble the bolt to clean it, just remove the bolt head (the front half that rotates when you are holding the bolt handle). You will see a slot cut in the bottom of the bolt head which continues on into the bolt body and a small rectangular dimple on the top of bolt head. To remove the bolt head, rotate it until the dimple aligns with the slot in the bolt body, then simply slide it forward and off. Use automotive brake cleaner to wash all the crud out of the bolt head. The firing pin should have some side to side play in the bolt body and should rotate freely. Hose it down with brake cleaner while rotating the firing pin till you have all the old lube out. Next you have to uncock the hammer. At the rear of the bolt body you should see a V shaped cutout with a small flat spot at the upper left of the V. There should be a pin that sticks out an 1/8 of an inch or so, resting in this flat spot. Place the bolt body firmly against the edge of your bench so that this pin is on top of the bench. Apply slight downward pressure then rotate the body to get the pin out of the flat, then gently release the pressure allowing the pin to slide down to the bottom of the V. Now you can use the brake cleaner to wash out the rear section of the bolt body.

Lube everything lightly before you put it back together. You will need to re-#### the hammer before you put the bolt back in the gun, do this the same way you released it, so that the pin is now resting back in the flatspot. If you don't do this, the bolt will go back in, but you won't be able to turn the bolt handle down to lock it. If you need more info just ask. Better still, if your in the Guelph area, bring it by and I'll show you how to do it.

For MD, you just need to line that dimple on the bolt head up with the slot on the body, slide it on then rotate it till the slots line up and pop it back in the gun.

And X2 on Havlin Sales, excellent people to deal with.

Quite often the pin mentioned above will seize in the bolt. This makes it appear to be broken off as it is too short to lock the bolt. They can be coaxed out with heat and some penetrating fluid. I am pretty sure they are under spring tension.

take care Darryl
