I recently aquired a mossberg 500 in camo.

While firing it at the range I noticed the mag was capped to 2, with a total of 3 shell capacity when one is in the chamber.

I was under the impression that you were allowed 5 shells for pump action shotguns. Is this true? And if so, whats the best way to remove the magazine tube to take out whatever is limiting the mag.

Thanks for the help!

You are allowed to have as many as you want....as long as you are NOT hunting. When hunting the max is 2 in the mag, one in the pipe. For the love of all that's holy, don't get caught by a CO with a full capacity shotgun.

SOmone who has one will chime in to tell you how to remove the mag spacer. It's generally a simple matter of removing the end cap, removing the inner cap at the end of the mag tube, removing the plug and re-assembling.

No need to remove the magazine tube.

Remove the barrel. There is a hole in the front of the mag tube. Point this hole towards the floor and jiggle the whole assembly you have in your hand. There is a 1/4" dowel that is 9" long that should start to come out. There are 2 "O"-rings on the dowel, careful removal of the dowel will keep these attached.

Re-install the plug by dropping it back into the hole.

Thanks everyone! I would like to get into hunting, which is why I bought the shotgun in the first place but I have not taken my hunters ed yet which is why I havent heard of that regulation yet.

Thanks again for all your help!
