As the title says. Im looking for a 17hmr, I would like synth stock.

The savage mark 2 tactical looking thing doesn't seem bad. Its around 500 bones... I feel like there might be better out there... Any one have hints ? I want to shoot 100-300 yards.

I bought a bull barrel savage and put it in a boyd's laminate stock with DIP bottom metal and scope rail...as is it shoots amazing 100-250 (which is as far as I calc'ed my drop chart) not sure if pillar and glass bedding will actually improve anything, but those are my next plans

I think I last saw a cz 455 for a bit under 600, definitely a nicer action than a savage but not sure it'll shoot better

I would recommend a CZ. I just sold a Marlin, my wife has a Savage and I still have my CZ 452fs. They're all accurate but the CZ is by far the nicest and always felt the most solid.

There's still a few CZ453's to be found. This is the model with the single set trigger. Get the heavy barrelled varmint version and this would be tough to beat if longer range is your game.
I've never heard of a 17hmr that didn't shoot well.

17hmrs usually shoot well- although mine is a little pickier on ammo than others seem to be. Savage seems to do well. CZ as well. High end get an annie and you are set- but that's a G note plus. The thing is that there isn't any bulk cheap 17hmr ammo- it is all quality stuff. You pay for it, but there are no "remington golden 17hmrs".

More important is what are you willing to spend on optics? .17 cal holes at 200 yards are not easy to see. Hopefully you still have budget left over for some glass of reasonable quality.

a Sako quad is what you are looking for, if you have $3k to spend order an Anschutz 1727F it has the fortner action is very accurate, wood stock though.

The quad is as accurate as the anschutz's are, it has the synthetic stock and is around $1000 mark, quite a bit less than a 54 action annie.

I bought the wife a savage 17 when she got her fac and I am very impressed with it. As others have said optics are probably as important as the gun you choose. My range only goes out to 200 yards so I don't know what it would do at 300 bit I would like to find out.

not sure the OP's intended purpose, but this is amazing for me, minute of rabbit is what I mostly care about...100 yd grouse headshots are also pretty sweet

100, 175 and 230 yds...i will add these are in dead calm conditions, add some wind and after 100ish they open up quickly

shooting 20 gr CCI fmj at the range...the 20gr game points are accurate for small game but not quite as tight at the range...and hornady 20gr's are on par for accuracy with the cci game points, but i stick to CCI

the gun shot basically the exact same before the boyd's stock and DIP stuff, but the stock fits better and more stable at the bench, doesn't make a difference hunting

Nice shooting! Yup, looks just like my group @ 290yds, but I was shooting an empty can of orange crush. I had 4 hits and one clear miss.

(Also dead calm, -20C or so, shooting down a cut line for total windblock)

yeah I think dead calm is the key with the 17 once you start getting out there. My range only goes to 200 but its always windy here and the wind seems to kill my groups at even at 200.
