Most accurate ammo for Savage MkII???

I have tried so many different ammos in various 22 rifles that I have lost count.
If [big "IF"] you own a true match quality 22 rimfire, then it will perform best with one of the recognized match ammos [ELEY, LAPUA, SK, RWS, GREEN TAG, ETC]
The trick is finding the type and lot number that your rifle likes best.
Expect to pay premium prices for premium ammo.
Some general purpose ammo seems to work quite well, but I would never take it to a match, because just when you have a great group in progress, you are likely to get that "blooper" round that opens the group to double size.
In a match rifle, using match ammo it likes, you should be able to average under .250" at 50 yards for ten shots.
For example, I have a very accurate SUHL 150 BR 22 that, with a certain lot of ELEY Match EPS, averages around .125" at 50 yards for 10 shots.
I also have a 40X Remington that comes very close to that.
Even some standard issue rifles will average around ½" at 50 with good ammo.
I would never settle for sub standard groups without trying a lot of ammo first.
Then if the rifle still was not up to my expectations, it is gone.

My MKII seems to like CCI standard and Fiocchi standard. Like father mentioned the shorter barrel versions seem to appreciate the higher velocities offered. I've tried just about every ammo you can imagine and as a mater of fact I was doing a ammo test last Saturday with rws and SK ammo. What I found was neither of them grouped any better than the CCI at all ranges. 40m, 60m, 77m, or 100m. What I did notice was that the SK and RWS was very oily and I had failur to eject every third or fourth round. Oh yah and the price was more than double that of Fiocchi or CCI standard.

It seems like lapua, and rws .22lr is some rare and mythical ammo in canada.

Who has a decent selection???? :bangHead:

A lot of people have claimed to use alternate .22lr to the usual federal, cci, remington, etc.

So please let me know where? Thanks.

i found mine through my local gun shop i think he ordered the ammo from FN sports which is a big distributor on the east coast

I like lapua i have goten .243 groups at 20 yards with it in my FV also remington subsonics come in at a close second. I have bought one of the trr-sr's about 6 months ago but have not fired it yet.

I get .243" one-shot groups with my .243. Two shot groups open up considerably! :(

In my experience, I've found the following to be very accurate .22LR ammo at a distance of 100 and 200 yards. Also they're relatively affordable.

Rem/Eley Target Rifle (yellow box with a green line) - 8$/50rds
Eley Sport - 7$/50
CCI Green Tag - 14.50$/100
CCI Select Precision - 15.50$/100
Norma Training - 2$/50
Norma Match 1 - 25$/50

Standard velocity .22LR is often the most accurate past 75 yards, as it doesn't cross the sonic barrier like ammo loaded to 1250+ft/s. I just shot some Rem/Eley Target Rifle today at 200 yards and accuracy was scary. I have three witnessed 5 shot groups, best is exactly an inch, worst is a little over 2.5".
