I know that appetite varies largely from gun to gun, but to those of you that own Savage MkII .22's, what have you found to be the most accurate ammo, in both cheapo and match versions? I am asking because I recently got a BSEV and am in the process of trying to find what it likes best. So far, the best I've found in cheapo ammo is Win Wildcat, which gives me about 1/2" at 50 yds, nothing stellar.

CCI Mini-Mags, CCI Standard Velocity, RWS Match Ammo,

Federal Champion and American Eagle is decent, but you have to focus harder to keep a tighter group.

I shoot an FV model with 2-7x33 scope.

Savage TRR, I get 1/2"-3/4" with some flyers at 50 yrds, (FYI, this is VERY DECENT for anyone) Lapua and Fiochi give hole in hole with some spread at 50 yrds but you have to really work at it. Any further out and it starts to spread. Above is based on ZERO wind as the slightest breeze will push out group sizes.

Since no 22 is exactly the same, perhaps this link will help.

You're right about no 2 22's. My son's CZ just loves Remmy Subsonic. My Norc Em322 hates them. It's why I specified Savage .22. I am assuming that what one Savage likes should be ballpark at the very least for mine. I haven't been able to find much of the CCI, so I'll look around for some. Seems to be what most of you guys feed your Savages?

I just got into a Savage Mark II recently and I’ve only had it out a handful of times, but I’m wondering if it’s me or the limitations of the cartridge. At about 100 meters, CCI Standards produced a fist size grouping. I’m not that great a shot, but I was hoping I’d do better. Is there something else that will produce better results?

Try as many different ammo's as you can get your hands on. You're bound to find one that does the trick. One thing to keep in mind - 100 yds. is fairly long range shooting for a .22. Even a slight wind can affect groups. If you're using supersonic loads, they can go erratic when they slow down. I'd start at 50, get it shooting the best you can there, and then move out to longer ranges. Also, if it's brand new, it can take a few boxes to settle in. I know the experts say it shouldn't, but I've seen it quite a few times.

Oh, ok, so I guess 200-300 meters is totally out of the question, haha! Ok, I don't feel so bad then. I'll give it a try at 50m and see how tight it is there. Thanks!

CCI Standard Velocity in m y FV-SR is pretty good, though, the only place you'll find it now is on a Google image search. CCI are too busy sending their products to other countries.

As for 1/2" @ 50 yards~pat yourself on the back if you can do that consistently. I can't....but I never try with my .22s either. (I only shoot hand-loaded centerfire off a bench) That's MOA shooting with a modestly-priced .22 rifle, factory trigger, and mid/low-end ammo.

I owned a Mark2 TR and it loved CCI standard velocity and CCI Green tag.
The high end stuff, like Eley did great but the best bang for the buck was without a doubt CCI std vel.

I had better results with subsonic ammunition.

+1 Love the stuff and would buy all I can get when available

I have a savage FV-SR and I found the best ammo so far for me is the CCI Mini mags. However, it's kind of expensive and hard to find for the quantities I shoot. So my go to ammo is Winchester 333 bulk packs. The groups are just barely bigger than CCI's and it's definitely easier to find.

I have some 333 I've yet to try. Guess I'll feed my FV-SR some of it! Granted, it's wearing a Vortex SPARC for pest control duty. Not a great way to gauge it's accuracy.

I have had the best results with SK Standard+... Wolf MT are good also... and CCI SV's of the more commonly available ammo.

I too like SK standard + better than RWS and less than polar. Mini mags are my go to for gophers (Rem yellowjackets in my 597). Most bulk shoot close to same. Only way to know is to shoot what you can get.

My Savage MkII BTVS consistently shoots one ragged hole, 0.5" spread 10 shot groups from the bench at 50m with Lapua Center-X - it's pricey, but it works for me. Originally did it with the trigger adjusted as low as it would go (2.8 lbs.), but can now do it with less sweat with the Apachee trigger kit installed (1.0 lbs.).
