Most accurate ''BUDGET'' .223 Bolt Action

Savage 12BVSS or 12 Varmint Low Profile. $700-$750, already in a good solid laminate stock, accutrigger is already there, just need a base, rings and a good scope.

Speaking from experience, so-called pillar bedding job in this model leaves a lot to be desired. Its just a couple pieces of thin steel tubing in the wood stock - no bedding compound. These rifles can be good shooters if you accept that you have to get them custom bedded.

Mine shot 1" groups out of the box with lightly loaded 55gr ammo, but groups opened to 2" when I used a heavier bullet loaded at higher pressures. After bedding, the both the heavy and light bullets would group .5" -.75".

If you don't want to go to the expense of custom bedding a rifle, you should stick to the brands and models that come with the HS precision stocks with the aluminum bedding block, and even some of those could use some bedding compound.

Dollar for dollar you CAN'T beat Savage.

Have a look at the "Long Range Varminter". It comes with a properly bedded HS stock and all the works. It's still cheap enough to call in kinda low cost. If you don't need hyper acurate, look at any of the other center-fire bolts from savage. You won't find more accuracy per dollar....

So far, I would go with Savage if in .223.
The 12FVSS or 10FP seem to be the better ones..

Ditto on the Savage for out of the box accuracy. You can get the heavy barrel with accutrigger for less than $1000.00. Add a scope and a bipod and you're all set. Here's my model 12 (pre-accutrigger:( ), but a beaut all the same. The target group is .75" at 100 yds. The top left hole is three shots and there are two others to the right. My scope is a cheapie Tasco target model at under $150.00. If I buy another target rifle it will be the same model, with accutrigger, in .308.

with a $2000 "budget" you can get a real nice setup...

I'd start with a Rem 700 VS,$950 @ WSS, tune the trigger to 2-1/2lbs, torque the action screws to 65 inch/lbs

mount up a Leupold 6.5-20X #55146, $890 @ WSS, set it in Leupold Dual Dovetail rings and bases,$100....

total $1940 plus taxes...this should get you started.....

Another vote for Savage... this is my 12FV with an Accushot (Marstar) Scope, Versapod Bipod, and plastic non-adjustable cheek piece... whole package about $700...

and this is how it shoots factory ammo at 100m

Really nice pkge but it is a single shot..Probably Savage's answer to the Remy XR-100 Rangemaster.

I'm getting to really like my .223 LTR. I really ddidn't like the stock, but I fixed that with a Macmillan HTG. Shoots 75 gr. bergers really well. So far I've had it out to 800m without embarrassing myself.

The CZ 527 Kevlar is about $6.00 shy of $1000.00 and I would imagine it shoots pretty well.

Built on the popular CZ 527 action, the Varmint sports a 24 hammer forged heavy barrel, an H-S precision Kevlar composite stock with an aluminum bedding block. The 527 Varmint features: single set trigger, Controlled round feed, fixed ejector and a 5 round detachable magazine (scope not included).

You could get a Ruger #1 Varmint with a great scope for under $2000. Beautiful Rifle and very accurate from what I have read.

Lets see here: $939 + $599 (Bushnell 4200 8-32X40) + 13% tax = $1737

These figures were if you purchases these at Wholesale sports who are very pricy and you could probably find them for alot cheaper I'm sure.
