Most accurate budget bolt action 22.

I am in the market for a bolt action rifle around the 200$
Give or take. I have thought about old cooey or norincos or savage rascals but I am open to anything. My main concern is accuracy. Doesn't matter if it's ugly or poor eronomics or old what ever as long as you figure it is more accurate than its counterparts
 
the price of the ammo trumps the cost of the rifle when it comes to accuracy, optics and ammo choice is far more important then the delivery system itself, what's your level of expected accuracy? that's a better start and a easier question to answer
 
Save up a bit more money. You will thank yourself later. $300 to $400 will open up a whole bunch of options. Realistically , the $200 price range won't get you what you want. You want something more accurate than it's counterparts? You should look into an older bolt gun . Years ago all the major manufacturers offered decently accurate models of a quality that is not the norm any more. Things like real walnut stocks , receiver peep sights , all steel and wood construction. Don't be afraid of a gun that was made in the 40s ,50's or 60's. Years stored away properly, doesn't beat up a gun. Many of these were grandpa's gun and haven't been shot much in years !
There are some real jewels to be had out there. They may not be tacticool , zombified , synthetic , or featured in any of the new cable tv movies. They for the most part , just shoot very well . Experiment with different brands of ammo for accuracy . Ammo , is where most of your success in accuracy comes from . Don't cheap out on the ammo , and try LOTS of standard velocity , and subsonic , as well as some regular high velocity . Your gun will tell you what it likes , and stick with that. (just my 2 cents)
 
I guess I could have said intended use is for grouse hunting, probably running .22 short. I dont need it to shoot quarter sized groups at 100y. But If a old cooey will hold groups at 40y and a Savage MK2 will not, then I will start looking for a good cooey. Or vise-a-versa.

And dont worry about ammo, I have no problem buying a bunch of boxes of hi end stuff to see what it likes.
 
I was shooting with a friend that just picked up a synthetic stock Marlin at Canadian tire for right around $200.00 I believe the model is xt-22 lr. We were shooting at 30 yards and he was using some dirt cheap bulk ammo with rather poor results. I had a good selection of ammo with me and let him try some sk rifle match. The groups tightened up and he was basically getting five shots one ragged hole. We were both quite impressed! Very good shooter for very little money.

Check out Tradex. They're a site sponsor and have all sorts of interesting old guns for sale. I've bought from them several times, and they've all been at least as nice as described on their website. The old Schultz and Larsen single shot 22's are pretty accurate, but they don't have many of them left now.

BTW regarding ammo I get amazing results from the cci 40 gr lead round nose standard velocity from my mk ii fvsr. Hope the OP does find one. I wouldn't trade or sell my fvsr for anything.

Only a rifle with a tubular mag as COOEY can load LR, L and SHORT.
