Most accurate Factory 308 ???

I bought an HS Precision HTR just for fun to plink with at the range and if you like your plinking to all go into the same hole it sure is fun. Now that I see you want an all around shooter I'd likely look at a CZ 550 or if you can find a Steyr in a Pro Hunter these seem to be a very accurate platform for a sporter weight rifle. If money is no problem and you like sweet walnut, I guess you'd be looking at a Cooper. FS

If I have a no budget limit for a precision factory rifle...
I would buy one of these...

- Sako TRG series
- Kimber rifles
- Tikka T3 Sporter and older M595 Master Sporter
- CZ and Cooper are quite respectables

- Savage Model 10 - 12 - FTR

We can not neglect the Savage :yingyang: IMO right now they are the best bang for the buck. I own a Savage 10 fcp-k and I'm not afraid to compete with any of the above listed :p

But I must say I really like the TRG, its pure gun #### !!!

I know nothing about those PGW...

Well dizzy I wouldn't carry a 17 lb savage model 12 F TR through the bush deer hunting and I wouldn't take a 6.5 lb pencil barrel gun to a 1000 yard shoot. You need to describe what the purpose parameters are.
I'm a Savage Model 12 fan myself.

Factory Accurate. It was put in the precision section as I am not looking for a light weight sheep hunting rifle. I am looking for the most accurate factory precision rifle made. Savages for example make some of the best on the market in 22lr. even more accurate than many anschutz's I own, but to get the one with the most accurate barrel you have to sift through 50 rifles as they are not extremely consistent from rifle to rifle. On the other hand when you buy an Anschutz you are almost guaranteed to get a great shooter. referring to the 22 lr world.

It seem in the precision world there is not a real go manufacturer that is known for producing the most consistently accurate center fire shelf rifles, like Anschutz is to the 22 world.. Meaning you can pick any one of them off the shelf and have really high expectations met, all the time. PGW it appears, might very well be that company, once you sift through all the opinions and users reviews. The reason for this original post was to try and get some comments from guys using accurate rifles, who associate with guys using higher end rifle, who may compete with guys using higher end rifles, to see if there is a trend towards one particular make.

I am guessing there is a factory offering that may be capable of fitting the bill, I just need to find it. for example the TRG-22 is seeing more use in 300M competitions UIT I believe its called, open sights. Its performing very well.

I may be asking for something to which there is no answer. Only way to find out is ask.

I am very aware of customs, however, for the intended purpose of this rifle, custom is not an option, so it will get no consideration at all.

I came into this thinking Nemesis, Unique Alpine were the top contenders, now PGW is added to the list. AI and TRG are close contenders, but may be slightly behind in accuracy.

After reading through the rest of the comments here, It sounds to me like you are looking for a pre-assembled custom rifle. Something sporting a match grade barrel that can be picked up off the shelf as a package, so that you don't have to pick through the endless options. A Ready to shoot package shipped to your door.

PGW would be my pick.

Dizzy, for your intended purpose, here is what I would do.....

Buy the rifle that fits you the best, get an aftermarket barrel chambered with a match reamer and spin it on the action you chose. It is the barrel that is going to make ALL the difference in the world.

This will give you best bang for the buck IMO and most barrel suppliers will usually have at least 1 .30cal barrel around as they are probably thee most sold caliber barrel around.

This way you would have the action/stock combo that YOU like plus the all the accuracy you can stand.

I'd be willing to bet that the folks at HS think that most every rifle they produce is a top quality piece. Never shot anything other than my Thumbhole varmint 204 and HTR 308 that was made by HS. but if these 2 rifles are a true indication of the quality of firearm that is produced, not too sure they can be beat. I've had great success with a Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 but haven't had the chance to push it past 100m, yet. It prints well with: S&B 168gr, Fed Match 168gr, Win Supr 168gr and loves the Hornady Custom 168gr A-Max.

I had a 700 5R and wasn't happy with the ergonomics of it (it didn't even make it to the range)...I had to two finger the bolt past the scope and no detachable magazine. (Changing the bolt handle and adding a detachable magazine kit was adding over $450 to the rifle to get it where I wanted it.)

The Tikka on the other hand has: a silky smooth action with the bolt handle in the right location, detachable magazine, awesome trigger and the hammer forged barrel is great. I figure for the money, it's been a great rifle to me and I enjoy shooting it very much. :D

These are my preferences and observations, just my .02

(If I had the money.....I'd get the PGW Coyote AND the Timberwolf ;) .)

Should'nt that have been your opening post?

my vsf rem 700 in 308,with a timney trigger ,and bedding ,i put 3 shots into 1.200" at 600 yards once.(prob never gonna happen for me again)

now ive had it reworked with new bedding and a custom barrell,so far have only taken it to 400 yards, should be even more accurate.
