Hi All,
So well aware that reloading is the best way to get the best accuracy/value and that is a long term plan.
For now curious to know opinions on bulk factory .556/223 ammo and overall accuracy. Particularly curious if anyone has tried Atlanta, WASP and Black VS. Regular AE.
Thanks,
DL

Confusing..
3g, my take is a Savage 12 LRPV wearing a Bushnell elite 6500. It also has 2 Harris bipods for different field layouts. Then I have a good set of redding dies and it loves any 69 grain bullet on top of IMR 4064. All in about $2600.
It didn't like any bulk light stuff. ie 35 to 55 grains.

I think he means he wants something for 3 gun. Not $3000

Depends on your twist. My personal favorite is PMC XTAC XM193. Its cheap but still shoots a hair over MOA in a 16"(1:7) SR-15. It has never given me a single hiccup and I'm almost done my second crate, so about 1800 rounds?

I'm starting to reload my 556 on a Dillon 550. TAC throws really consistently and all projectiles I have tried so far are landing in sub minute groups.

Most of the matches I have been to lately value time over sub minute accuracy. Make sure whatever you choose is uber reliable

I've shot some Atlanta Arms through a bolt gun; both the 55gr and 75gr AMU loads grouped significantly better than any factory ammunition that's been through the gun. On par with my hand loads, but I also haven't found a sweetspot load for that gun yet... Nothing but good to say for Atlanta Arms product; I've shot a bunch of it at pistol matches over the last season. Consistent over the chronograph and 100% reliable.

For 3 Gun....the gun is already 3k. Higher volume shooting, where accuracy is a factor, not plinking, but not bench rest either.

All you need is "good enough". Shoot whatever you can find that your rifle likes and doesn't break the bank.

I've shot Wolf steel-cased, Norinco, cheap Federal, etc. My Armalite is currently sighted in for Tulammo .223 and I'm shooting a 7.62x39 AR at the match today using Czech surplus. I certainly don't need sub-MOA performance.

I'm been using Wasp since last year for CQB and 3gun, reliable and accurate enough for 8 inch plates at 200 freehand... with the usual disclaimer that this is what my rifle likes, your milage may vary. Highly recommend buying a bit of all the brands you listed, shoot 20 rounds each for groups from the bench, and burn through a couple of mags at competition speed to check for reliability. Of course you could actually check the tolerances of the ammo as a measure of accuracy/reliability(I found the Wasp COAL more consistent than the AE), but throwing bullets as fast as possible at targets is more fun:).

If you were willing to pay above bulk cheap ammo pricing, you might be able to find someone locally that would reload 223 for you and sell it to you. At, say, $800/thousand it makes some financial sense for a person with a decent reloading setup to sell his rounds.

There's this little legal thing about being a licensed manufacturer of ammunition by Nat Res. Canada for ammunition resale...and then there's this other minuscule thing called "liability" and insurance that causes common sense to trump that financial sense.

100% buy cheap And practice more.
Practice is more valuable that moa accuracy from your gun.
3g is more time than accuracy.

If you can keep 4"groups with .30 splits at 7 yards your doing well.
Black hills vs norinco may shave 1/4 off at that distance for big cost difference.

Now go practice some bill drills!
4$ + per drill with good ammo or
2$ per drill with cheap

What will make you a better shooter?

Many variables and there is no "magic bullet" (cheep and accurate). Was just curious to see if there was a resounding "hell yea this stuff is awesome - best value for the money".
I lucked out and got some of the last good brass cased Norc ammo and other than being a bit dirty, it shoots surprisingly well. That stuff won't last forever though, so on to the next.
Unlike pistol shooting the relationship between gun quality and ammo quality in rifle is a bit harder to overcome. A $500 AR isn't going to shoot stellar no matter what you feed it. A well put together AR will shoot amazing with the right ammo and maybe a bit better than a cheep one with bulk ammo, so there has to be a sweet spot in cost/performance - yea, I know start reloading.....

I've tried a bunch of what is mentioned here in my CC IUR. I find the Federal AR223 stuff is all over the place. XM193 is a little better. Atlanta Arms 75gr is really accurate. However the most accurate I've tried is the Hornady Superperformance 75gr Match 5.56 NATO. As accurate as any of my handloads but too pricey for 3 gun.

Yea the Hornady stuff is pretty amazing, have gotten really close to a 5 shot 1" group with my XCR with that stuff and the XCR isn't exactly known for its stellar accuracy.
American chicken HP's seem to shoot a bit more consistent than the FMJ. Canada Ammo sucked me in and am going to try PMC.

What distance/target sizes do you see at your matches you attend?

I'm sure you'll be happy with the PMC. The brass is good too, you will just need to find a good "decrimper". I have been using the RCBS swager combo die but I'm going to upgrade to the Dillon 600 soon. The RCBS set up works ok but you gain a little speed with the Dillon
