Hey guys, looking for some knowledge from other members with experience with different models and makes of .22 rifles. What's in your opinion the most accurate .22 rifles for under $500? I currently own a CZ 452 Lux and its very accurate with iron sights, but I'm looking to get an inexpensive .22 rifle to put a scope on for plinking. From what I've read so far, the Savage Mark ii have a really good reputation for accuracy and low cost. Thanks!

I was going to say the same. I know Bullseye had Mark II's with a heavy barrel (but unfortunately no iron sights) for 263+tax last weekend. Not sure if they still have that, but that seemed to be the best deal for what you're asking for. What else has your research pointed you too?

I'd find a #'d Brno for accurate plinking.
They are out there and plink with style.
And I do know where there is a #2E that could be bawt for under yer fiver brown ones.

My only Mark II was an FV-SR...and as much as I liked it, it didn't not offer even decent accuracy. I've heard good things about the full-length barrel Mark IIs, and even better things about the Mark II TR. Were I looking for an economical 22 bolt gun with good accuracy potential, I'd either look at a new Savage B22...or an older Marlin. If the latter, check which Marlin models Rifle Basix makes triggers for...and pick one of them. Great/cheap guns, but heavy triggers hold them back accuracy wise. I still think you could get it all together for less than the cost of a CZ 452...but I think you're in around $400 or so with both options I'm suggesting.

Tikka T1x hands down. It’s cheap and you can do what you want to it to help with accuracy and such.
Chassis/stocks, proper scope rails, barrel change, trigger, bolt handle/shroud/thread protector, etc etc. And it’s got that awesome 70° (I swear it feels like 60) bolt throw. So you can keep it factory cheap or turn it into a $3K gun.

The bolt action Mossberg .22 rifles from the 40's and 50's were very accurate rifles.
Most came with a highly adjustable peep sight.
They were/ are , reasonably priced tack drivers.
Better quality than anything made today, in that price range.

He is looking for something under 500$. The t1x goes for 650$...maybe get it on sale for 550 or 600 if it goes on sale.

Agreed. The Mossbergs, Remingtons, Winchesters, Marlins, Savage/Stevens of that era all tend to shoot very well. I have a Winchester 69A which was set up with target sights for use in the old Dominion Marksman program that is very accurate. As are my vintage Brnos. I think these older rifles are much better buys than current production rifles in the same price range.

Have a look at the Marlins...mainly the 795 or the model 60 if you want a semi. Event the bolt action Marlins will hang with rifles 2 and 3x as pricey as far as accuracy. Not the most refined rifles but they are very accurate. I have lots of experience with a 455 in 22lr a 795 and a 60. The 455 gets the edge as far as accuracy but for the money, the Marlins are a phenomenal value and often get overlooked.

FYI the 795 has a detachable mag while the model 60 has a 14 round tube mag...otherwise they are identical. Also, many current offerings also have aftermarket 25 round mags available (795, rem 597, savage a22, etc). The ruger 10/22 is limited to 10 rounds and is not known for out-of-the-box accuracy.

I was recently given a Marlin 46B with rear peep sight and various front sights and it is very accurate. Good trigger, great stock. Problem is many people wants scopes these days, and likely want a bolt on solution. I would highly recommend someone buy one if they can get it for a reasonable price.

We still have the 69A my great aunt bought in the 40's. My oldest son is the 5th generation to use it and its still extremely accurate. Very likely it will see 6 generations :)

Of all the 22's I've owned and shot, this Winchester by gone era rifle is my favorite.
So much so, I own three of them.
One bazztersized, one beat tuh chit and one ohhhh solo meee-oh nicer.

rimfire ammo itself has more effect on accuracy then the delivery system you chose to use to send it.......

I have a savage MkII g, about the cheapest MkII you can buy. I put a Nikon prostaff on it and it is a pure tack driver with CCI mini mags. Whole package cost me about 450 with a bipod.

^thought I'd read the thread starter wrong..or I'd have suggested Tikka, CZ, Anschutz too! :)

Scroll through Tradex's list of used rimfires, might be something catches your eye.
