What is the most accurate muzzleloader to be bought?

I was looking through the SIR catalog and saw some of the muzzleloaders there in camo print.

Personally, I find it ridiculous. But it got me curious to how accurate some of these rigs are...

go out to your local blackpowder guys when they are shooting ,,you will be suprised what they can do, there are lots of flintlock muzzleloaders that will compete with with your average modern gun with open sights out to 100 yds, i thinl you are probably more interested in inline muzzleoaders, they are a lot like a 45/70 out too 200 yds, just not very traditional ,,have fun ,, wade

my savage is crazy....if I let the barel cool down (the sabot's can't take the heat and get soft) it will shoot around an inch and a half at 100 yards and I can hit the 10"/10" gong at 200 yards all day buy holding in the middle if it is shooting 2"high at 100.....all wit smokeless powder.

Buy a Pedersoli Tryon Creedmoor Standard Rifle in .45 caliber. It will blow the doors of any modern or antique muzzleloader...

Ive got a Savage ML II which will group an easy 1 inch. Ive tried two others, Thompson and Traditions and could not get this good of consistant shooting.

Don't buy into that "traditional" arguement because hunting is what is traditional no the tool used to make the kill.

Cheers!!

Tried a few

I have personally put the following through the ringer.

Savage
Rem
Thompson center hawken
safari arm hawken
Knight wolverine
Knight hawk
Knight disc magnum
NEF
Gonic
White

For hunting reliabilty, no misfires, and solid groups under 2". Knight Disc mag hands down number one from the ones I have used.

That's an interesting rifle,5 grooves, 1 in 21 twist, the creedmore sights would be a definite advantage also.
Cheers nessy.

I am personally not interested in black powder rifles at all, or any muzzleloader for that matter.

I'm just really impressed with what they can do these days.
I don't want to offend any of you guys, but its not as effective of a system as a conventional weapon.

So the fact that you guys can get 1" groups at 100 yards or more is pretty impressive.

When I first saw those camo muzzleloaders I thought SIR was out to lunch.
Hahaha

Try it !

I know that modern firearms will always out perform BP. That said, using BP firearms is an awesome hobby that adds a whole new dimension to hunting and shooting. Why limit yourself. Spend a little money and have a lot more fun.:dancingbanana:

Some people add them to their hunting arsenal for different reasons....

Take advantage of a early muzzleloading only season.... and in some places like around Saskatoon its Muzzleloading and Archery zones only. No centerfires allowed ...

It is pretty tough to beat what they used to get when that is all they used. The Whiteworth rifle with a 1 in 21" twist, used about a 500g bullet. They shot targets to 500 yards, and did this in international competition. It is interesting reading.

I am a student, and an amateur photographer, and an avid computer user.

My computer's getting older, my Rebel XT needs accessories, and tuition isn't getting any cheaper. :runaway:

At least I'm buying SOME guys!

You can buy a replica muzzle loader these days that can go close to an inch off the bench at 100 yards.
About the only type of black powder firearm I haven't shot is one of those inline things.
not interested , don't need to .
I don't shoot BP to "take advantage " of anything except the joy of shooting and hunting with replica firearms.

I can say once I tried it for the first time this summer I was hooked. Now I'm more excited to head out this fall in ML than rifle season. It is definetely a whole new aspect, and a 'different' hunting game.
Why were you so surprised to see camo print?? Most ML guys are camo'd anyway??

No need for any camo on my blackpowder guns, this is the only thing that deers or bears are able to notice at distance...:p

One more reason

Nailed a nice fat doe for the freezer today. Muzzle loader only season and we saw 12+ deer and zero other hunters. Not bad for a crappy rainy morning

Maybe

Might be but I just hate being wet and muddy. Maybe I'm getting old and soft but I'd much rather be out in warm dry temps. That si another reason to take up this sport. You can fill your tags before the winter snow. I guess you young guys are a lot tougher than us old farts.:D
