Well. For a new rifle there's ZASTAVA Z-5 and SAVAGES mark II's. For accuracy VS $, they are pretty hard to beat. Don't know if new MARLINS are as accurate as they were? If you go used your horizon opens up quite a bit. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah I've been looking at both types and it brought me to the marlin 60 which has a lot of really good reviews and a few really crappy ones?

I keep coming back to the Mossberg tactical as well :) just because I love the looks

But is a marlin 60 reliable, it seems to be the least expensive and semi auto

Well I think I can get my marlin 981T to shoot under 2" easy enough @ 100m. Might even get it down to 1". I had it shooting about 4" @ 100m with dynapoints on a moderately gusty day and have yet been out with it on a calm day where I can try target ammunition in it(winter kind of killed my motivation to go out and shoot). My savage TR will do under an inch all the time with target ammunition it likes and my best group during testing was 0.65" (5 shot, 100m).

Really I think if you go savage, marlin, or any other modern 22lr bolt action you'll be pretty good once you figure out what ammunition it likes. For example that Savage TR of mine will shoot 4-5" groups with Blazer 500 round jumble packs but down around 1-1.5" with Blazer boxes of 50. So ammunition is likely the biggest factor for most people rather than the gun as it seems most people just shoot what's cheap rather than picking what their gun likes.
