Maybe this should be a poll, but I suspect there would be too many different suggestions.

I'd like opinions on the most beautiful looking handgun ever made. Price, accuracy, functionality, etc mean nothing. Just looks and workmanship.

My vote: Browning Medalist -- the presentation version in the red velvet case made from '62 to '74 I think.

I don't think I can pick one as absolutely above all others, but all of the candidates I think of have blued steel and wood grips.

Might be worthwhile to post some picture in case someone doesn't know what a Browning Medalist looks like.

I've always liked the look of the Luger.

This one looks a bit like the Medalist,

I will have to go along with this, there is nothing like blued steel and real wood for esthetic appeal.

I've always liked the luck of the Luger.

Excellent choice, the Luger is a front runner in my books.

My choices would be a high end 1911 with the above mentioned blued/wood combo or perhaps an S&W Model 29 or 629 in the same.

That guy had some issues.

I have to lean towards pretty much any well built/tuned, big bore single action revolver. Includes those Hamilton Bowen built Ruger jobbies there. My favourites being Merwin Hulberts (currently out of my price range) and Victorian era S&W's (just about out of my price range).

I would say a S&W N Frame with 5" ribbed "pencil" barrel and target sights. Make mine a 1950 Target or Model 24 in .44 Special!

Runners up include:
-Traditional-looking 1911s: fine, vertical slide serrations at rear only.
-Walther PP
-Colt SAA
-Colt 1860 Army
-Browning Hi Power
-Colt 1903

Have to agree with you. Probably because it's a classic, classy look like a good analogue watch compared with some digital POS.

Thanks to all for your post; there are some other very interesting views out there. Maybe I'll select 10 popular responses and do a Poll on the Poll Forum.

You can see what I mean with my original choice - the Browning Medalist in this pic.

Thanks too to Can-down for your pics of a Medalist

CZ SP-01 Shadow (minus the extended magwell, of course):
