More complicated the design, the hard to replace parts. The 1911 has a reputation for being complicated and hard to dissassemble. I just detailed my beretta 92 and have to say the 1911 has nothing on the difficulties of my 92.

My vote for most complex design in a pistol goes to the beretta (there must be like 10+ tiny little springs)

any takers?

simplest goes to glock

what do you guys think are the simplest and most complex?

My vote for simplest is my WWII German high power. Take down in 30 seconds flat. So far having a tough time with the springfield black stainless. Alan keys, tight fitting parts and jittery fingers are not a good match.

Tokarev for the simplist, perhaps tied with Glock.
HK USP for the hardest (on this I'm going by the opinion of a friend who owns something of almost everything, and finds the HK to be overly compex).
Of my own guns, my Ruger MKIII takes this prize.

simplest is definetly the glock...ive broken mine down completely into only 25 pieces...and could re-assemble the whole thing in under 2 minutes (i know this because there was a fire alarm in my building, and i didnt feel like leaving it on display)

"...1911 has a reputation for being..." Who told you that? The 1911 is as simple as it gets to take apart.
If we're talking a simple field strip my Sig 226 is a bit quicker than my 1911, having a couple less steps. For someone not experienced the 1911 can be more of a chore reassembling because of the slide release catch.

Glock is very simple. I never had trouble with the 1911, either. First couple of times doing a detail strip on one is tricky but it doesn't take long you could do it in the dark.

we are talking about detailed strip, and the complextey of the mechanisms

most of these guys are incredibly easy to field but past that you need a textbook and a few hours.

how hard is the 226 to detail? anyone have any expierience?

I fail to see how people think a USP is difficult to field strip. Personally, I find it easier than my 1911.

I totally agree with this. There is absolutely nothing complicated about the USP design. It's right up there with Glock for simplicity if you ask me. These modern designs that are marketed to police and military agencies have to be simple and rugged or they won't be able to sell any. The complex designs are what they had 80 years ago and don't make any more: Luger, Mauser Broomhandle, etc.

For guns that are still made, I find the Ruger .22LR pistols to be crazy and frustrating. Even when you understand how it works, and have disassembled it many times, it can still throw you for a loop. My GF has one. I hate that design.

hi power

while not complicated, i find getting the spring back on the hammer strut and sometimes knocking out the pin that holds the ejector a huge pain in the arse.

anyone with a beretta try dissassembling the decocker on the slide and let me know how long you take to get it back together.

Simplest in my collection by far is the Sig P228. Show me a pistol that field strips easier than that.

1911 is not bad. Detail strip is not that bad either.

Tokarev is more annoying than the 1911 because you have to hammer that metal clip on and off during disassembly and reassembly, and strange pins have fallen out of the slide so I don't fire it anymore.

We'll see how the CZ stacks up. I think it will be in between the 1911 and the Tokarev in terms of complexity.

Ruger 22/45 is an absolute nightmare and I often think about selling it.
