most consistant/worst rifle you ever owned?

Worst was a Rem 788 in 243,it shot 8" groups had it rechambered and recrowned.Still shot the same bedded it changed stocks then rebarrelled to a 6mm rem still shot like a piece of crap. Then I put a 7-08 barrel on it nothing changed sold it and the 3 barrels and 2 stocks for $250.
Best is a Sako 6.5x55 they will bury me with I hope

Nope. Sold it to Doug - why, I don't know. It did shoot good. I think it has bounced around a few more guys since then

..............bwaaaaaahhhh i seem to remember someone saying "oh gee it will look great next to my .308" Well, that didn't last long did it.:D You know your a gunnut when.....:D

Worst: The 2 Ruger Mini-14/30 that I have owned. Junk.
Best: Tie between Tikka T3LSS (.300WSM) and Sav 12FV (.243). I just can't seem to load a bad cartridge in these rifles.

Its more of a spray and pray type rifle.:p havent shot my eye out yet!

That compass in the stock has yet to get me lost. It always helped me find my way home for supper.

I retired it long ago. Replaced it with a cooey single shot.:dancingbanana: the original gopher slaying rifle.

I hear the new ones come with GPS in the stock.

For me, the worst had to be the first Ruger No.1 I ver owned, a light sporter in .243.
I tried everything, pressure points, different scopes , different handloads, different shooters, everything.
The best this rifle ever did was 1.5" at 100 yards, most times it was worse.
Me being who and what I am, was not happy to say the least.

Now I just KNOW you're not talking about the one you got back from hornhead and sold to me, now ARE you?? LOL :runaway:

I have to say the most consistent rifle I own is the CZ452 in 22LR.

CCI Mini Mags always = dime sized groups at 50M.

The Savage 116 in 7mmRM I used to own would almost always shoot nice little holes-touching groups too.

The worst? I don't think I've owned a bad shooter, but then again I haven't owned very many rifles.

Believe it or not the most accurate handgun I ever owned was a S&W 686... with a 2 1/2" barrel! That thing was awsome for accuracy, whether with hot 357mag defensive type loads, or soft 38 Special wadcutter target loads.

The best: My very first BG rifle, a Rem700 BDL SS in .270 WCF. That thing shot everything well, my last hunting load with it couldn't touch rifling with an accubond I shot that thing so much.
The worst: same rifle redone to the nines in 338 WM. One group will go 3/4" the next 3". More time and hours into that thing than I need to mention. I won't mention who did the rebuild cause I like them personally, but this rifle is so finicky that I sold it to my dad. I do cry for my old .270 some nights.

Worst two--brand new Remington 700 Stainless synthetic in .30-06--never did get it to shoot under 2" but then it never went over 3" either. Ruger No. 3 in .22 Hornet--did everything possible to it still shot like crap.

Best two--
remington 700 heavy barrel .308--consistently shot .80" 5 shot groups with several loads. Savage 99R in .358 win, consistently shoots Sierra 225gr into .75" 3-shot groups.

relax ... cat turned his nightmare into some wildcat thing that he claims shoots well.
as for my worst ... probably the 243 ruger #1 that you shoot the fleas off a squirrels back with... go figure.
my best was a savage 99 in 308 that shot 100 yard 3 shot 3/4-1" groups off the bench while i was adjusting the sights. then i put a scope on it and said 99 went into a sulk til i took it off. it didn't like reciever sights or those pop up peep sights ... just iron sights.
i know .... it's all about me ... but i can change ... maybe ... i think ...
swapped that rifle for a sage 4 piece fly rod & reel. still got the rod, trout avoid it .. go figure.
great thread by the way.

Heck no!
I would NEVER sell a dawg unless the buyer was informed!
No, that one is the .308 that Clint now owns.
I originally got it in 1980, sold it, bought it back, rebarreled it, and started punchin' tags ands sillhouettes steady with it.
it is now in 300SAUM with a Smith barrel on it!

Best one. Remington 700BDL in 17 Remington. I just love that rifle and cartrige now.

Worst? Got to be a 10/22 when I didnt have my sear setscrew set right.

They should throw a compass on the tupperware stevens 200's. it would only cost savage/stevens an extra $2.00. LOL:eek:

Hey, there you go. Now you know what to do with that extra stock...that is if the dog hasn't chewed it yet. Send pics when done. :D
