What .22lr round is the most devastating on gophers. I was out today using up my 10 year old supply ( Win Wildcat) of .22lr on a gopher patch. I noticed that most of the connecting shots were effective but boring. The gophers usually just hunched up and died with one or two doing some acrobatics. As I did some searching on here I noticed that there is a tonne of options of .22lr these days. My gun shoots everything that I have tried really well for accuarcy, but what round gets the best " Air time" on a gopher ?

Winchester Wildcats are solids. Any Hollow Point will get the job done quicker, but Winchester's Power Point is probably the nastiest bullet out there. It was designed for big Australian jacks, so it can handle a gopher alright.
I usually don't stray too far from my CCI Mini-Mag HP's, but I would bet that any of the newer Hyper Velocity .22s with big ol' gaping hollow points would likely be the most dramatic. CCI Velocitor comes to mind but I have never used them. When I'm looking for "drama"

I've never seen a .22lr give any REAL air time on a gopher or ground hog. Like you say most just fall over dead or maybe roll a couple of times from impact.
You want air time? Go with a small caliber center fire with 32gr Vmax bullets. A very fragile bullet that basicly explodes on impact with anything. I haven't seen any richochets with my .204 and gophers die a MOST spectacular death.
Serious air time or even better, a pink nuclear explosion.

My buddy swears by quick shok.. that's all he buys and he's never had an accuracy issue to my knowledge... but then again.. not every rifle is the same.
Oh, you big meanies, shooting those poor, cute little gophers
......I use mostly Federal el cheapo bulk HP, and whatever else happens to be in the pile. I usually fire some warning shots, so don't want to waste expensive ammo. The cheap HP's give a nice "splop" on a direct hit, gopher falls over dead. Head shots give a lot of jumping around, but I don't like to show off too often with head shots..... It discourages the other shooters....... I have a .22/20ga Savage that works good too!

Excellent picture. I use American Eagles which work well, Mini Mags, and I may try some Velocitors this summer.
One thing I have noticed with stingers and quick shock is that a center hit
empties the body. I often find heart, lungs and liver at short ways from carcass and intact as if removed by a surgeon. If you want to get some air time shoot em while they are laying in the grass facing shot. Place the shot under head and between front legs. You will end up with 4 feet of mung juice and a skin.
Most of my shots are head shots. I enjoy the dance.
