What .22lr round is the most devastating on gophers. I was out today using up my 10 year old supply ( Win Wildcat) of .22lr on a gopher patch. I noticed that most of the connecting shots were effective but boring. The gophers usually just hunched up and died with one or two doing some acrobatics. As I did some searching on here I noticed that there is a tonne of options of .22lr these days. My gun shoots everything that I have tried really well for accuarcy, but what round gets the best " Air time" on a gopher ?

Serious air time or even better, a pink nuclear explosion.
......I use mostly Federal el cheapo bulk HP, and whatever else happens to be in the pile. I usually fire some warning shots, so don't want to waste expensive ammo. The cheap HP's give a nice "splop" on a direct hit, gopher falls over dead. Head shots give a lot of jumping around, but I don't like to show off too often with head shots..... It discourages the other shooters
