Most durable optic

Definitely NOT Vortex. Most Durable scope for not super money is easily the SWFA fixed 10X or one of the other fixed powers. These were originally designed for the US Navy and their simplicity makes them super durable. the S&B, Kahles or US optics fixed 10x are even more durable especially the USO but cost significantly more.

Your line-up of suggestions is very impressive, but don't you think a 10x scope is a bit much for a 7.62x39 bush/quad rifle?

Lots of great suggestions! I'm going to check out that primary arms suggestion. It is a bit expensive and heavy though I like the reticle.

Are there any brands of scopes that are more rugged? I know the leupold marketeers talk a mean game about their products, is it true or not?

Scopes kind of appeal more to me as they have better visibility in low light. I know the fixed scopes are more durable than then variable.

I have Leupolds on six rifles starting at 22 Hornet ending in 458x2 inch American.
Zero issues.
I also have a Nightforce NXS 12-42 perched on Remington 700 Varmint. Also no issues.
Yes is probably more durable than most Leupolds however it's much more pricey and much heavier too. This is my longer range toy so it does not get taken hunting.

Edit: I owned a steel Weaver Challenger scope in the past. They are rock solid scopes.
Only had two scope failures. Loss of nitrogen Burris 2-7 Compact (made by Pentax perhaps??)
And a Burris Scout Scout 2 3/4 power reticle came loose. I think I have really terrible luck because I never met anyone else with anything bad to say about Burris optics.

Primary Arms prism sights would like a word. They tend to come in around the $350 - $550 range

There are some amazing youtube vids of ridiculous torture tests on the Primary Arms Prism sights. One guy strapped it to his deck for two hurricaines in the US south atlantic coast, another took his underwater to like 400 feet deep and it didn't get any water infiltration (can't find the vid at the moment). They froze it in a block of ice and smashed it. Not just the 1x, the others too. It's been dropped, run over by jeeps, and baked in an oven at 170 degree Fahrenheit

They easily stand up to ACOGs in terms of durability, for about 2/3rds of the price.

Chinese optics are a no go for me. I do have a PA prism and it is excellent.

Never been impressed with short eye relief of ACOG. Belongs on AR platform 5.56mm.

False information. Only the TA31 4X acogs have poor eye relief. The TA33, TA11 and TA44 have excellent eye relief.

My vortex crossfire f***ed off in a few months of light use. Bomb proof? not sure that thing is sneeze proof, depending on china glass is just plain stupid. You could ask the deer to kindly stay in place while you wait for a new one to ship, or buy a Meprolight which is good for low light and durable. If you get a scope you most likely wont be able to park your car on it but the magnification is nice.

I can vouch for leupold, 12lbs rifle dropped directly on the scope still use the scope to this day and held zero. I use nothing but leupold on my hunting rifles from 7mm-08 on up to 375 H&h

I had seen where they (Leupold) use a led sled that represents the recoil of a 50 Cal as part of their testing .
This was an interesting marketing test ;)

I picked up a VX freedom 1.5-4 this year for a .308. No idea how bombproof it will be but it fits your budget and intended usage. I have a fair number of other Leupolds and have had little in the way of issues with them.

The lads here in Central Ontario like a low power variable for shooting in the tight bush. I've found a something like a 1.5 to 4x to be optimal. Most of the time the scope is at 1.5X, but can be adjusted should the shot demand it. You can pick up a used Leupold VX II or Vari-x II for well within your budget. The scope will outlast you...

Leupold are the best combination of durable/lightweight. Sure, you can find more robust options but that equals a lot more weight ie. Nightforce. It’s a hunting scope, it should be able to take some abuse but not weigh half as much as the rifle it’s on.
