Most effective factory 300 win round for BIG black bear?

Bears kill easy. Any bullet that shoots good out of your rifle will be fine. 150-200gr. Federal fusion would probably be a good place to start. Rem cor-lokts will also do just fine. I shot my biggest one with a 30-30 with a 150gr sierra pro hunter.

killed a giant of a black bear almost 7' tail to nose , with a 303 FMJ 174 surplus they kill lots easyer than most think. I wasn't hunting bear, I was out plinking, and she was hunting me. I had no choice and that's the ammo I had

Yeah they kill pretty easy I used a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag last fall and was just a moderate cast load, really I'd hunt black beat with an sks with the right ammo within 100 yards

Don't over-think it. Bears die easy, and react well to bullets on the soft side of the spectrum. "Best" is a tall order but if you stick a 180 grain Ballistic-tip, Accubond or Partition through its shoulders or frontal chest you won't be looking for anything but your knife. All of those are available in factory ammo. Go harder bullets and rear lung hits and you might be looking for a blood trail. Option #1 is way better.

300s are great; they almost make everything else seem like a novelty gun. ;)

I used to use 180 grain Nosler Partitions in 300 win. Mag.

They killed some bears outright with boiler room shots, but most ran some distance which is a hassle when there is thick bush.

My friend who I loaded with quit loading (it was all his equipment) and on a whim I bought a box of Winchester Super-x silver box cartridges with 180 grain bullets. amazingly, they turned out to be more accurate than the handloads. Really nice groups at 200 metres. I've been using them ever since. They kill bears.

Can't think of a bad bullet for hunting black bears with a .300 magnum. Some are slightly better that others, but none bad. Personally I'd stick to 180's and 200 grain bullets, only because exit wounds are sometimes a good thing.
