Most ergonomic rifles

Steyr, my SUHL double 16, Brownings x-bolt, most Sakos, Parker hale with the rollover cheek, browning auto-5, some Ruger #1's... Those are a few that seem to shoulder, fit and point nice.

Different people have different ideas as to what they want a rifle to be, they have different body shapes, and come in a wide variety of sizes. It is therefore difficult to say that gun "A" is ergonomic while gun "B" is not. My personal preference is a 6-10 pound bolt gun with a 20"-24" barrel, a 13.5" LOP, a straight stock, with enough drop at the comb to facilitate shooting with irons, but where I don't have to crane my neck to get a good sight picture through a low mounted scope. One of the great irritations of my life was picking up a Weatherby rifle, throwing it to my shoulder, and discovering that the stock fit like a glove, and that the scope's eye relief required absolutely no wiggling to correct. I hate Weatherbys, but Roy knew something about what it takes to fit a rifle to a human being.

Not surprisingly, the AR-15 has everything in the right place, and since I have recently become acquainted with one, I dare say it would be my go to rifle if it wasn't restricted . . . well okay, not for bear work.

The 760/7600 fits/handles/functions about the same as the 870, which is the most produced pump shotgun ever.

Buy a 7600 and have it cut back to 20". Add a small/lightweight scope like a VXII 1x4 or VXIII 1.5x5 and you will see what I mean.

Here's a couple of mine. Top is an original 760 Carbine and the bottom is a 760 cut back to 20".

I shoulder'ed one of the new TC dimension's the other week, very impressed in comparison to the other bolt actions on the rack.

Built my own stock for an enfield mk4 a while back, I built it to fit me and use with iron sights, obviously shoulders well, point is if you can't buy it you can built it for the rifle you have.

In a hunting situation where drives are the norm I like the Rem 760/7600..

My bolt gun preference is the Marlin MR-7...Prefer these to any other bolt gun I have, or had...

When I bought my Win 94 back in 1983 I thought it was the cats meow till I shot it .
No matter how I held it, I would always punch myself in the nose and to this day I still end up all teary eyed when ever I shoulder and pull the trigger on a Win 94.
The Browning A-bolt comes to mind, then the Remington 700 and the Wby.Vanguard.
Shotguns are a different beast and the 870 WINGMASTER fits me fine, more so than the Browning BPS that I also like, but no longer own.
Then when it comes to the .22's the Sako FinFire was a dream to shoulder and now CZ has come along ...it isnt no FinFire , but does shoulder and fits well.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Depends on the shooter. Cheeseburger doesn't fit his Zastava worth a damn but other guys seem to have no problems.

Had to drag me in to this, didn't ya. :slap: cou: Laugh2

Hopefully with some luck I will be able to remedy it. As to the OP - I'll probably get mocked for this :p - I find the Tikka T3's to fit me very well. It comes to my shoulder very quickly and points nicely.

Boyds stocks are my friend, something for most of us, I did not care for their Classic but I have their Feather weight thumbhole and the Prairie Hunter on a few different rifles, in January they had a Web Site problem and listed a few models that were not available yet, I paid for a Prairie Hunter For an A bolt and received it last week, very nice fit for me(still not listed). I also own a Carl Gustaf HVA with the original fancy factory stock and it is a very nice fit as well. So for me it's the raised comb that makes the difference. Another ergonomic issue is the safety, on both my A bolt and Carl Gustaf I can operate the safety without changing my grip, on my Ruger Hawkeye with a thumbhole stock I have to change my grip to move the safety.

I forgot my all time favorite... mainly because I was a dufous and sold the last one 20 years ago... the Browning A-5 shotgun... yeah, yeah... I know that many find the hump ugly, but that gun fit me PERFECTLY... it didn't matter what my body posture was, the A-5 came easily to my shoulder and my eye was always right down the top of the barrel... and having said all of this, I can't remember what the circumstances where that possessed me to sell them all??? Looking back, it seems like a real "brain fart" thing... Browning is making the A-5 again, but when I put one of the new ones to my shoulder, the magic was gone... I would rather hold on to the memory of the feel of it bucking against my shoulder on a cool October morning, on a backwoods beaverpond, with the mallards and blacks and woodies chuckling and squealing down, than bastardize those golden memories with a copy that falls short.

I can see the draw to the 7600, fits and points well like it's shotgun cousin, detachable mag, offered in chamberings of ammo that is readily available, no pesky hammer or bolt to mess with a scope.

Just watch them flood into the EE after these posts, lol.

As a side note erganomic wise I currently I enjoy the Handi rifles (NEF and H&R).

I like a fairly short LOP - even though I am 6' - and slim rifles. Examples are the pre-SBS Steyr Mannlicher Luxus (the regular S and M models do not), pre-war Mannlicher-Schoenauers, Winchester Fwt, Brno 21H (except if scope is mounted high) etc. A recent example of the opposite is the Ruger Alaskan. To me it feels like a fat club.

Edit - Mig 25 - fools seldom differ! ;)

I've gotten used to shooting all my rifles with the thumb resting in line with the stock instead of draping it over....I find it more comfortable and in a better position to work the hammer or bolt. Plus as a bonus you will never again experience the nose butt!

The Remington 7600 (carbine only...for balance considerations) is a close second to the all time best ergonomic rifle for my hold being the Browning BLR Model 81 Lightweight with the straight stock. I looked at rifles and hefted dozens a few years ago when I got back into hunting after quite a hiatus, and nothing felt perfect until I looked down the barrel of the Browning. Everyone is a bit different, but this was a moment of enlightenment for me and I bought the rifle on the spot. Rifles come and rifles go, but this one is still my favourite. :)

I'm not sure if it is a matter of the horse leading the cart or the cart first, but I seem to fit 700 Rems perfectly. I grew up shooting Rem 700s so it may be a case of the cart leading the horse. I also had an old Sako Safari from the 80s that was uncanny, I could throw it to my shoulder with my eyes closed, open them and the bead was snuggled right in the notch where it belonged. I always said I could shoot clays in flight with it but never got around to trying it. My Merkel double does fit nice as well, but it would seem that I must be of very common build as most factory rifles fit me very well with some abortions being the exception, a Blaser for one!!
One of my favorite rifles right now and for many years, that seems to fit a touch better than the rest is an old Rem mod 7 KS in 350 RM. There is something about it that is just perfect...........balance or weight or the combination, how it sits in my hands......not sure but it is exceptional, and as such I shoot it very well. I have had many very positive comments about this rifle from other shooters who have tried it or even just held it and shouldered it, there is something special about it, for sure, and it is absolutely factory, no mods what-so-ever!!
I also like the feel and fit of my Mod 7 MS in 7-08, but haven't done enough with it to know if it is a cut above, just yet.

I'll second the BLR experience.

Never shot one but the one I handled in the gun store felt really nice to shoulder.
