Hi just wondering what you guys think is the most Fun/Accurate shooter, a Smith 22a or a Sig 226/22 I know the benefit of the SIG being able to convert to 9mm or .40 or 357sig later. To get one of these I am looking to get rid of my colt 1911 .45 that I haven't shot in 4 years and either of these guns wont cost me much more than the other in a trade. Although I will have more cash left over if I go with the Smith

I just want something fun, accurate and cheap to shoot to get me back to the range. I thought about getting a .22 top end for my 1911 but its as much as the smith and I dont have the cash to put out right now a trade is my best bet.

Thanks for any advice and opinions

Are these the only two your considering?
Smith 22a has a rail so easy to mount a red dot.
I've never tried the sig 226 .22 but I believe it's a quality option.
If it's a 1911 style you'd like to try then consider the gsg1911. I had one and it was a great plinker. Functioned really well
There's always the tried and true ruger mark series and browning buck mark. Can add a rail to both for red dots.
My eyes are getting older and I think a .22 with a red dot would be great fun. Been looking for a few weeks now. Trying to trade as well. If your looking to trade a colt 1911 on a .22 it should be no problem at all.

I'm going to add as well a .22 revolver is great fun too. I picked up a Taurus model 94. 9 shot. 5" barrel. It's great fun! Very accurate. Works with shorts and those .22 quiet. Those quiets are fun!! In a rifle it sounds like a pellet gun and in a revolver they are a little louder of course about the same as a rifle firing regular .22. I see there's been a recent shipment of the ruger sp101 .22 4.2" barrel. come to canada. They appear to be a real nice piece. There's a few S&W 17 kicking around. According to all the smith lovers ;) they are the Cadillac of .22 revolvers. They can be had on the EE for $600-$700.

So far those are the only 2 cause they are available close but I am open to others

Already have a 22 revolver, I want a 22 semiauto pistol

Just keeping on the subject about the two, I would lean towards the Sig.

There is just something about the mag realease on the front strap of the 22a that bugs me.

But the Sig lacks a last round hold open unless you mod your mags.

Although....the 22a has a nicer trigger.

And as you mentioned, there is a 9mm slide for the Sig.

I can go back and forth here which doesn't help you much.

Whichever it is, good to see you're hitting the range again.

I have the S&W 22a-1 and it's a tack driver for $300. The front mag release is great, have it on my S&W 422 also and really like it. Take down is really simple, you just have to be careful you don't snap off the hook at the end of the rail under the rear sight.

Since it sounds like money is at least a secondary consideration I'd vote for the 22A or something in the same cost range over the Sig.

I've shot the S&W 22A, Browning Buckmark, Ruger Mk II and III, GSG and a few others. I found that all of them are pretty darn good for accuracy out of the box. And in fact I've yet to find one which won't shoot a lot better than most folks can hold them. But of the lot the Buckmark has a nicer out of the box trigger. S&W and Ruger were about the same. That is to say darn nice given that the ones I shot were old and well burnished in so they are pretty smooth. But the Buckmark is that little bit nicer.

If you can stand the odd wrist angle, which seems more at home with one handed side on bullseye style, the Beretta NEOS and Ruger Mk III are good options. But if you prefer a two handed hold and square on stance the others with the more vertical grips will serve you better.

Thanks for all the help guys I'm definitely going to check on a few more options as I am not dead set on these 2 choices. Some day I might get into big caliber again. But right now .22 is the way to go small family and smaller income.
