Well. I got out at it today for a bit. Nice fresh hunt in through the bush, even in the honey hole for a bit.
Saw 17 bears, 15 elk, a bunch of deer, a lynx and a squirrel
I took a bear,...and from what I have been told after arriving back, apparently it's a good one.
Todays bear was the last one I will hunt. Just a personal decision, and I'll be happy to still watch and help out other guys with theirs.
I spotted the bear at about 200 yrds. He saw me and didn't bother too much with worrying about me hiking up on him. He walked deeper into the bush as i closed in on 100 yrds.
I went into the thick stuff after him. I couldn't see him aside from occasional glimpses, but I sure could hear him. When he stood still I had my crosshairs on his shoulder but then heard cracking beside me. Another bear was in there.
He was a moderate sized bear and was watching me curiously.
I now have lost my opportunity on the bear that was in front of me and was watching closely the bear beside me.
I continued forward into the bush and saw through the trees, the bear looking out at me full side on, head turned.
I glanced the other bear,..seemed to be minding his own business,..so I throw up the rifle and squeeze one off.
That was it,...it was over.
The Sako 7mm-08 with 140 TSX performed as I have heard they should.
It was through and through with jellied internals.
Anyone in the GP area who wants to get on a bear,..drop me a line.
I don't trophy hunt, so I don't know how to really gauge a big bear, other than if it looks big. Today I saw 8 bears that I would call good decent bears, and two that seemed rather large. Mine was what I considered to be a good decent bear.
Good luck all...
