I hear that Mosin Nagants are cheap because they're so popular but from what I can see the SKS is the more popular gun and they cost more. The Mosin's seem to be rising in value and I THINK it's because they are coming less available for people to buy.

Thoughts on this?

The Mosin Nagant, like the Lee Enfield was the main battle rifle for the countries that used them for over 70 years. Not what I would call a garbage rod by any means.

Garbage rod with surplus ammo from 1950s. That's from 200m. Every single garbage rod my friends own (I don't own one) has no problem hitting 6x6 and 8x8 gong at 200m mark most of the time I pull a trigger.
P.S. This particular garbage rod did have garbage rod PU optics installed on it but hey, it's the rifle that sent those 3 rounds down range, PU just helped me to aim.

Some of us used to trash talk thd MN as the Ugly Betty of MILSURPs, not as elegant as the Springfield, as familiar as the Enfield or as well made as the Mauser.

Someone twisted my arm to buy a Finnish M27 from him at a show for $60 and it sat in the back of my safe, unloved and unshot, for the next 15 years. I eventually got around to rolling some handloads for it and was pretty stunned at the results as well as the fine trigger pull.

They have quite a history as the arm of choice for the Czar and the commies and quite a few others incl the Chinese and the Viets.

AND SOON, it's will be no more.

In two years from here, prices will be creazy, so!

Buy them when they are available at reasonnable prices.

you must be using Garbage ammo in this garbage rod. other wise it should be tighter if only at 200.

They are cool IMO. Was out burning up Garbage ammo with 'Peter the Great' & 'Ivan the Nazi Conscript' yesterday.
The next pu**y that snivels about an M44's recoil...long sleeved shirt and...well that's it. Burned off a quick 40 rounds ( through each)...couple of freckles this morning on my shoulder. Really they are just a full house burning carbine...they don't kick that bad. Saying 'Man up' is ###ist, cause girl's shoot them fine as well.
Maybe I'll burn off another quick 100 rds and get some pictures this aft ( cleaning got put off...no time yesterday)

I would say they [MN & SKS] are popular because they are affordable, and get more popular because of their merits. Like almost everything prices will continue to rise.

They are both mighty fine examples of the purpose they were designed for. One is only better than the other based on what you want to do with it.

For an investment purpose I might need to get my hands on one or two MN then. They seem to already be harder to find than the SKS's.
Would $250 be on the high end to pay for a 91/30 right now?

Still available for around $200 for the basic model. Look around, you will find a decent one for a decent price.

Love my MN, my SKS's, my Lee Enfields, wonderful to shoot IMO. The MN and Enfield in particular were very effective in their time and the SKS is good cheap fun. I don't believe any of these old warhorses are garbage, have some respect, for if it wasn't for the MN, Enfield and a few others, we would probably be speaking Geeman today.

The most popular is always the cheapest thing out there, what ever that maybe, It helps that they made millions of these things, now call them collectable and you have a winner
