CAPE TOWN - CAPE PROVINCE - SOUTH AFRICA
epa00822705 A visitor to the 2006 Africa Aerospace and Defence show handles the newly launched Neopup personal assault weapon manufactured by South African company Gemaco Elbree in Cape Town, South Africa, Wednesday 20 September 2006. Manufacturers claim it is the most powerful assault rifle in the world boasting 20 x 24 mm calibre . Munitions for the unique weapon are manufactured by South African arms company Denel. This is the biggest arms show in Africa with 400 exhibitors from 27 countries displaying civilian, defence, aerospace and maritime hardware.

The South Africans can keep it .. +1 on the butt ugly post. Would much rather take my chances with a Remmy 700P in .300 Winny Mag. for Cape water beasts.

:D

It's beautiful, in the way that all functional and innovative firearms are beautiful. :D

Awesome (y)

About time someone in the military started thinking about revolutionary cartridge and firearm design, and I don't mean necking down the .30 Rem... I bet this thing does some of the work of the shotgun, the assault rifle, AND the grenade launcher (for attacking objectives).

I don't like the 'Battleship Galactica' look...
I don't know... just looks like design was rushed, and not quite finished...

It seems to be pretty widely believed that we as a civilization have collectively reached the pinacle of firearms innovation. Pretty much everything from here on is just modest design modifications and swapping steel for aluminum or polymers. This gun doesn't really have anything new about it. It's more of a franken-class gun. Keep in mind the old saying: Jack of all trades, but master of none.

The mag looks like it would hold a casing longer than 24mm? Maybe the priojectile is fairly long to hold explosives and such?

Somehow I get the feeling that the write misrepresented the designation of the caliber.

Unless we see the ammo, I don't know we can be sure, but I think it'll likely be a 20x24mm sized slug shooter.

20 x 24mm?

sounds like a 20mm diameter HE round, and with only a 24mm long case, probably a low velocity "lob" rather than a hi-vel long distance shooter.

more like a new high tech version of the old Vietnam era M79 "Blooper"
