Most powerful under 500 fps .22 semi auto pellet pistol for Grouse contol in Canada?

Is this a serious question?

To me it would be anything 499 FPS. It's not like you can do load development or anything, increase velocities. Maybe a PBA ammo in .22 but not sure they make it in anything other than .177. That's all I've ever bought.

I can't say I've even seen a semi auto .22 pellet pistol in Canada.

Crows are protected I believe in British Columbia however I believe in the synopsis Ravens aren't. Two different species if I remember correctly. Unless you have a permit for pest control of crows?
I know you can get a permit as a farmer for starlings and blast thousands that are eating your crops.

I think you'd need to buy a used Crosman 600, and they are getting pricey. They can be modded with longer barrels, different valves etc. Google and check the airgun forums.

Ya grouse can't be shot as pests and I wouldn't suggest shooting them with pellets anyways, and definitely not out of a pistol not powerful enough under 500fps, as for crow they do count as pest in most provinces IIRC but there are certain laws pertaining to whether you can shoot them or not such as them doing actual harm to property or like in BC they have to be harming farmland. Why are you wanting to shoot grouse as pests? And why not use a 22?

If you use PBA or any other pellets that increase muzzle velocity to 500+ FPS, you aren't longer dealing with an air pistol that is unregulated but rather technically one that could be considered a restricted handgun which can only be discharged at an approved range. Also, hunting regulations may apply depending on location and target species. Moreover, make sure the critters you are after are actually destructive pests rather than just "neat targets" for an afternoon of "killing stuff for the heck of it." (that sort of thing just makes us all look bad, aside from being a bit twisted).

I used the word "control" as a joke. I like to "control" Grouse into my kitchen oven during legal hunting season. The Crows I just like to scare away. According to another post, using an air pistol in Ontario is fine for hunting as long as it is not over the 500 FPS.

I know there are a few .22 single shot pellet pistols, I was hoping for a semi auto....

Crows arn't protected... Ravens are they look really close so you have to be careful when blasting them...

The best one would be the one with the fastest 22 projectile... I know some company makes 30 cal and 50 cal pellet guns they're for hunting big game they're over the 500 limit...

Really. I thought it was the other way around. I know here in BC the lower mainland is a primary migratory breeding ground for crows. And my hunting synopsis shows a season opening and bag limit for Ravens.

But I could be wrong. Maybe I have it all confused but I know for sure there's a season in areas for Ravens. Just checked the synopsis.

my crossman 1377 has droped plenty of critters sparrows, starlings and even a squirrel or two they now make the 1322 again these are most likely the best your going to get

It varies by province, crows & ravens are not caught under the Migratory Birds Convention Act and therefore fall under provincial jurisdiction. See for example the following:

and

Check the regs for your province ;)

Another thing...crows are extremely tough birds to put down.
A 500fps pellet is going to leave you with a lot wounded crows and grouse flying around.
One of the reasons the anti gun people don't like us.

Agreed. I'm also a fan of airgunning, and unless you're set to hit a lot of eyes, be prepared to see some feathers fly and an angry crow leave you behind. Co2 pistols (your only chance of finding someing in semi) are not known for accuracy, and crows aren't known for slowly approaching you on foot so you can get one in point blank.

I take grouse regularly (and yes, they are game, not pests) with an 800fps air rifle, but I wouldn't try to kill anything other than a pop can with an air pistol, or anything rated under 600 - 700 fps. If all you want to do is scare crows (as in frighten a crow, not shoot a scarecrow), throw a rock at an empty garbage can.

I too would like a .22 Air pistol for grouse. Ive been looking for a while and havent found a .22 semi auto pistol. It would be great to carry while big game hunting. I will keep a close eye on this thread to see if something pops up.

Ive killed crows with my crossman air pistol in .177 but wouldnt risk wounding a grouse or hungarian partridge. I also dont shoot farther than 15yards with it. I often find grouse within 5yards when searching for whitetail in the woods. It would be nice to take a few for super.

Good luck, and if you find something let us know

You won't find a semi-auto .22 air pistol.

I'd recommend a multi pump such as the Benjamin Sheridan HB22. 460 fps.

Crows are tough and you will need to be very close to be effective.

My old crosman 150 is CO2, .22, has two power levels, shoots at 499fps, and I've knocked crows stone dead at 40 yards. The smack the pellet makes is quite loud too :D

I may scope it one day...
