Hey guys.

Am entering into the dark side of black rifles. Hopefully tomorrow when my Norinco CQ 10.5" barelled thngy shows up.

Which is the most relaible operation system for an AR? Pistion or gas (if I got my terminology right...)?

Got a couple of the Sweeney books on the way. So hope this will help my uneducatedness......

Right now gas is still considered the most reliable. Though some piston rifles are really quite good like HK, PWS, etc.

If you keep it lubed and clean it semi regularly you will be very happy with a gas rifle.

When you get it let me know and I'll go over it with as far as maintainamce and trouble shooting goes. Have 4 AR style platforms I ran into lots of stuff, but I finally got all mine working

Piston rifles may still need some teething time. I'd go for DI before piston, but in a few years that may change, who knows?

Good thing about AR's, there's never a shortage of Gucci stuff for it. Be it an operating system or the newest shiny rails, there's a lot of possibilities. Go with what you feel is best.

Typically, and there a few exceptions (i.e. at significant cost), piston AR's are heavier, less accurate, and cost more. IMHO, unless you get a high quality piston gun, and expect to be firing at high rates of sustained fire (hundreds to thousands of rounds), with no opportunity to clean it during that time (i.e a sustained combat situation), then they are a novelty item, only.
