Hey everyone, I am starting to look at getting a 9mm, but am getting tons of conflicting info on what's good what to stay away from. Can everyone chime in with their good experiences and bad experiences, with all brands, BUT, not impressions based on hearsay ! I buy a lot of my Milsurps this way and it really leads to good info for all. Many thanks to all that will give some of their time up to chime in, greatly appreciated !

Shooting is about finding what really fits for you. What works for someone may not work for you (grip size, control locations, polymer vs metal etc) . I suggest asking friends to bring their pistols and shoot 50 round to get a feel of what you like.

In terms of reliability... most modern pistols are reliable. They are carried every day by law enforcement and military to protect lives. If you're not getting shipped to an open war zone, any modern pistol will be reliable as long as you do proper maintenance

I say start with the CZ75 platform... CZ SP01 Shadow to be exact :D Built ground up with competition performance in mind

Pick a bunch up shoot as many as you can fondle as many as you can
These days they will all do what youll need them to do just pick the one that feels the best.

Browning Hi-Power. I've never experienced a malfunction in either the older MK II or newer MK III versions. The Hungarian FEG P9M clone is in the same boat. Still the best handling and sleekest heavy duty full-sized 9mm pistol to this day, it makes many so-called "compacts" seem porky!

For a full sized 9mm SIG P226 is about the best I've seen. An ex-mod on here had one at the range one day that had over 100,000 rounds through it with nothing replaced...not even the recoil spring. And that was close to 10 years ago....I have no idea how many rounds ended up through it, or if it ever gave up...

I'll chime in for a Glock 17 .. can honestly say I have NEVER had a failure to fire or feed..and was one of the reasons I picked it for my first 9MM.

Glock, Walther, SIG, HK, XD, S&W, CZ, Berreta......

You would be hard pressed to find a modern pistol that is not reliable for the average civi shooter.

Pick whatever fits your hand best.

That being said, my CZ 75 has eaten all the cheap ammo I have put through it thus far, my buddy's 92fs has not.

As most have said, all reputable brands and models will be just fine. Key is to try and get your hands on few at your club to test drive and pick which ever gave you the best feel and smile.
