Most rust resistant and durable finish closest to Stainless steel?

It sounds like the perfect finish for a sal####er environment. If my reloading press was still mounted in the aft cabin of my center cockpit ketch I'd be wanting to have parts of it and perhaps some dies (?) done also. I eventually grounded the ram of the reloading press to the sacrificial zinc circuit and most of my issues went away but who wants to drill and tap the receiver of a rife to hang an electrical connection from it? To be honest I have been holding back on a few blued rifles as I did not want more in my possession stressing me out with worry about rust....

No problem! I only had vague knowledge the nitride process existed until CanAm came along and mentioned it in to the thread. Cheers CanAm, you're awesome! If everything goes ahead I'll also make sure I do a video about it.
 
Please do. I wouldn't mind having at least one rifle done. It would be cheaper than having it ceracoated.

Update:

I just sent both a CZ 527 and a 455 with 2 barrels to Nitrera to be done. It turns out it was much cheaper than sending something to be ceracoated, but I had to completely disassemble both rifles and send out the bits and pieces I wanted done. Once they're done I get the parts back and I reassemble the rifles; the 455 will be a cakewalk, the 527, not so much. I won't quote prices as I'll let Nitrera do that: I want to be fair and give them a chance to tweak their pricing depending on how time consuming this turns out for them. More to come...

It's quite possible they will not want to bother with small quantities/low volumes but it can't hurt to ask.

The liquid nitride process sounds perfect for what I want regarding weatherproofing. At a minimum I'd probably have my CZ 527 and CZ 455 done. I have long wanted a good all weather bolt action 7.62x39 with iron sights, so I often mull around the idea of having my savage axis .308 SS re-barreled and modified to run 7.62x39; a project that would probably run north of $1K, never mind the substantial hurdle finding a gunsmith willing to participate in said endeavor. Having my CZ 527 weatherproofed would put this idea to rest.

Pretty sure savage made their scout rifle in 7.62x39, but I think they were only in blue.

You are correct. To my knowledge Savage only ran them for a few years (2011-2013?) so while they would be a fantastic candidate for the Nitride process, they are made out of unobtainium.
 
Let me know how they turn out. I've been in touch with them as well. I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to nitride or cerakote.

So does this process turn out the same on blued and stainless steels ....ie will a chrome moly action with a stainless barrel come out with a uniform finish?
 
I got everything back from Nitrera and put back together. I started a new thread titled "Nitride finish results - Wall of text and pics warning!" to showcase the results. Pure awesome.
