Mount and Rings recommendation

Don't forget about Near Mfg. bases. They are Canadian and can make you pretty much what you want...

Absolutely! I run a Near Mfg 20MOA tapered base on my Win Stealth II. Great product, great service!

Just get a pair of brand name rings that will fit your bases, and work with your scope. This will get your scope mounted, and you can get out and shoot. If you want to upgrade later, you can always do that.

Another company to look at is Seekins precision in the US, They are a fairly new company putting out a good product at a very reasonable price. I also agree that you should lap your rings, be careful and don't rush the job and it will turn out fine..nothing crappier than a dent in a scope that is worth as much as your car:(

It wasn't until I got a computer and started reading on some of the shooting sites that I found out how lucky I've been to be able to be competitive and even win a bit using Weaver mounts for all these years. Maybe some of my fellow shooters have been taking it easy on me just out of sympathy. Regards, Bill.

I also agree on the TPS rings, and Farrel 1 Piece mounts. My rings came from Joe at ### international and my mount came from Corlane. I had Luepold rings and bases before, they are crap.

I wouldn't overlook PRI products, I have one of there bases on my Savage 10LFP and was quite impressed with the quality, it compared favourably to Badger Ordnance.

Anyone have any experience with the Leupold Mark 4 bases and rings? Thinking of using them on my Remington VSSF II.

I use a one piece Leupy MK4 base modified to accept 8X40 screws (factory screws are 6X48).

It is a good base but has a couple of drawbacks:

-It is a non-tapered base

-It is a NOT Picatinney spec base (IIRC, it is a Weaver spec base). This means that the slots to not meet Picatinney dimensions, so scopes can not be swapped over to rifles equiped with a Picatinney type base.

I will be switching to a tapered Near 25MOA or 30MOA base in the New Year.

Something else to consider if you are only going to shoot out to 600 yds, are the Talley one piece mounts. I bought these for my Savage, and it is a pretty good idea. The complete ring is screwd directly to the action.
No Rail. Minimizes the number of things to come loose. The only problem is that it is a little more time consuming to remove the scope from the rifle as you have to unscrew the 8 allen screws to remove the top caps.
Also no taper, hence the 600 yd limitations.
However all in all a pretty good idea. 1"scopes only.
