Was time for a freshy carbon steel barrel, with a nice treatment of Cerkote.

Thanks for answering all my questions and taking on a demanding customer Robmcleod82, nice piece of work.

Went with a non stainless-steel barrel and a longer neck case trying to improve barrel life. Rifle is pretty well balanced at around what must be about 7 pounds, 25.4 inch benchmark barrel because its more interesting. Have it shooting with decent accuracy 150gr Horn ELD X @ 3100 fps, it is possible to step on the gas and get lots more speed but recoil is tolerable.

Right on ! What cartridge is it chambered in ? RJ

Be a few ways to get a 150gr 7mm bullet to 3100 fps but the internet really isn’t ready for this particular cartridge.

Kept 5 loaded rounds with the same bullets powder used in the current load and the empty case and bullet used for original OAL. Interested to see when the barrel is about done how much the velocity drops off from when the barrel was brand new.

Sometimes a rifle is good in almost any chambering.

Longer necks don't add barrel life, smaller cases do. I don't believe non stainless adds anything to barrel life either... Stainless resists erosion more. I see far more damaged chrome moly barrels over stainless on used rifles coming through my shop.

the DAMAGE you speak of Dennis is it THROAT Erosion OR ? RJ

Too bad Rob couldn't flip that bolt handle around, or that you couldn't learn to shoot it from the proper side of the bench.
Just KS ing with you Jimmy. :)

Hey I still get on a horse the right way.

Left or right side of these benches still have carpet on them so both sides suck. They are wonderful benches with good stools just not a fan of the carpet.
