Mountain Rifle with Grizzly capability..your thoughts?

Ah yes Hoyt but better than no plan, my kid and I had both done several "Robin Hoods" with arrows the winter before and could literally shoot a dime at 30 mtrs everytime so it made sense at the time. Like I said I'm glad we never had to enact the plan.

E-mail with a couple of quick photos on the way as we speak.

I have made literally dozens of "Robin Hoods" in 45+ years of archery, but attempting to nail the beady eye of a charging grizzly or even on huffing and puffing with head swinging from side to side... would be a most hopeful accomplishment, requiring vastly more luck than skill... trusting to luck for survival is unpalatable... but, as you no doubt discussed with your son, even with a "perfect" heart/lung shot, you might be mauled anyway by a determined bear. I can imagine your discomfort, sleeping in a tent next to a pile of fresh meat in grizzly country.

Agreed. For me, and not having anywhere near the experience of Douglas, in 'the heat of the moment' with a firearm or a bow, probably an impossibility.
Canada 2, Sweden 0. Go guys!!
The shoulder is much improved, time to take the bows out of their position of rest in the basement.

Have a 'few' Robinhoods, two of the first are hanging in my den, and pardon the poor photo.

On my target bag made up and hanging in the basement, to save on arrow costs in my practice sessions, one arrow/target.

I had saved a few in the garage... even had a double "Robin Hood" with 2514 Easton's (three arrows stacked looks pretty cool)... but got tired of tripping over them and sent them to the dump...

I am a Hoyt shooter too... for going onto 40 years...

Hey guys I said it was a plan........never said it was a good plan........we also timed a pepper spray and could get 3 aimed arrows off in the duration time of the spray, 2 cans of spray = 6 arrows = porcupine head bear. We also practiced on the swinging rubber ball at 30 mtrs and became quite proficient at that as well. Hey we had it all figured out, and God help any grizzly that came within 50 mtrs of us, I'll tell ya.....................like I said it was a plan....sounded plausible at the kitchen table, and gave the kid some confidence that the old man had it all under control......16 year olds are so naive........

lol...

As some of you know, I was once in close proximity to a large, judging by his actions, but didn't see him, grizzly bear, in the bush miles from anywhere and the only firearm I had was a 22 revolver. As I reported, with six long rifle shells in the cylinder it felt a lot better in my hand than nothing in my hand!
I too, quickly connived a plan, good or bad. If he attacked, I thought I could wait until he actually opened his mouth and one or more bullets in the mouth might discourage him.
Sure, looking back it may seem like a terrible plan, but lets hear a better one under the options available.
A strong wind was blowing and within less than five minutes previous the bear had been where I was now standing and I had been downwind from him.
I immediately started to talk, low at first, then getting louder and that was what probably spared any conflict.

As you say... ANY plan is better than no plan... but a GOOD plan is better than ANY plan... waiting for the mouth to open, means you have to shoot off your earlobe to hit him... ;)
