Mountain rifle

Good evening everyone,

Weekend warrior for hunting and shooting. Looking to setup a lightweight mountain rifle for sheep hunting and then getting comfortable shooting up to 400yrds. Figure this is the place for advice and marketplace. Have a few old HVA rifles, old savage 110 and Marlin 1893. Not very knowledgeable but looking to learn from the people with knowledge and experience.

Welcome to the forum! For mountain hunts, I recommend either a Winchester Model 70 Compact in 7mm-08 or a Howa HS Precision rifle in 270 Win. For 400 yrds, magnums need not apply. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

Both of those are excessivley heavy options. Kimber Hunter or Montana, maybe a used Fieldcraft if you can find one, would be better weights for sheep hunting IMO.
