Mountain rifle

To get this train back on the tracks here is a pic of my current favorite "mountain rifle" chambered for a factory cartridge.
Browning A-Bolt Classic Hunter short action in 300 WSM wearing a Leupold 3-9 x 40 and an aftermarket Limb-saver pad.
The fact that it shoots tiny little groups is a bonus and makes me overlook it's recoil which is noticeable to say the least. :D

In a factory I'd take the kimber montana in 325wsm, but I have a custom 375 ruger almost complete that should tip the scales @ 7lbs with scope, so that is my pic for now.

So you need a partner for a sheep hunt???

That's the same reason I never bought a Ti and everytime Rembo talks about his Ti 7-08 that he BDL'd.

I would likely get a Sako Finnlight 300 wsm.

....the BDL bottom metal into the Ti is easy...ask cccan...he did mine and his 308 Ti......

I have one each of long and short bottom metal on hand just in case I run into another Ti.....

That gun has lost weight since I had it. With A Zeiss conquest it was closer to 8 lbs, then again my dinky scale may be off too.

I think I missed a word or two in my post, seeing it in quotations.

I missed the part about me asking him if it's for sale evertime he mentions it.

Take my M-70 feather wieght in a 264 wm or my 700 Mt in a 270.

But my last big walking trip i really enjoyed the T-3 lite on my shoulder it carried nice I know i was even supprized.

Never owned a Ti would have like to!

Yep. ;) The stock has been lightened a bit since you had it. I replaced the standard rings and bases with extra-low dual dovetail units that shave another ounce or two. The VX1 I have on it also weighs 3 or 4 ounces less than your Conquest.

You think it kicked bad before you should try it now! ;) LoL I would not even attempt to shoot it at the bench without that LimbSaver on it. As it is you can't just lay the forearm on the bags and have at it. A firm grip with both hands is required.

Certainly there a lot of really nice "off the rack" lightweight rifles out there that picking ONE could be a tough chore.

My personal which I have had for some time...Winchester Featherweight in 280REM that is pillar bedded into a Brown Precision stock with a Leupold 2.5x8

I like the function of a floorplate, not the looks
what do you need a floorplate for when you are in the mountians
when I go i like my rifle loaded all the time ..... you just never know what is going to happen
so I only need to empty the mag once in 2-3 weeks and that is when i get in the truck
not a very big problem considering the weight that is cut down

I have an older 22" barreled synthetic stocked Rem 700 Mountain Rifle chambered in 280 Rem my prefered scope for this rifle is a Leupold Vari X 11 4X - 12X.

With 139gr SST's and IMR 4350 powder I get 3/4" 100 yard groups and 3060fps with no pressure signs.

I shot my last mountain goat with this combo.

If I was start again I would get the same rifle/cartridge combo but in stainless steel.

my vote would be the browning TI. those things are damn light and all the brownings i have seen/had shoot like a hot damn right out of the box. that is the only gun i know of that weight out of the box ready to mount and go. but i imagine there are some kimbers, howas, etc but i only know the browning so that limits my comments.

Same for when I use a rifle elsewhere- To unload, and as an extra insurance in case of a malfunction, to quickly clear a jam.

when I go i like my rifle loaded all the time ..... you just never know what is going to happen

I leave my rifle loaded too...

so I only need to empty the mag once in 2-3 weeks and that is when i get in the truck

I prefer to unlaod at the end of the day, clean out any dust or debris that may have made it's way in there, replace ammo and hit the sack.

not a very big problem considering the weight that is cut down

I feel the minor weight savings is not worth the trade off for hindered functionality.

those are all fair reasons
so the browning ti is a good choice than it is very light and handy
my buddies stainless stalker shoots good so I would imagine they would too
and they have a floor plate and a mag

I don't know why Browning doesn't get rid of the floorplate/magazine and go with a much simpler (like Remington) arrangement. The trigger could be simpler as well.

I think alot more folk would like the A-Bolts if this be the case.
