hey guys,

Just recently bought a savage 10fp off the EE. Love the rifle, and can't wait to shoot it. Anyways I'm going to mount a bipod on this thing. It came with the removable "sliding" bipod mount that has the swivel stud attached. Just for sh1ts and giggles, I pulled a UTG bi pod off my .22 and tried to mount it on the Choate. When I tried to, the swivel stud on the Choate was too big and the UTG wouldn't fit.

Is this because of the UTG bipod, or the swivel stud that appears larger than "normal"?

Also, for anyone with this Choate varmint stock, what bipods are you running that fit on the swivel stud no problem?

Thanks

ohhhhh yup. they do that. i bought a choate stock from jerry at mystic. the sliding mount thing it comes with isnt machined for a normal bipod from what i could tell. maybe they screwed up on the dimensions when they made em because a normal sling clampy thing would be even worse. the stud extends too far down to allow for the bipod to snug up to the contact point on the stock. Or possibly the stock was supposed to have the rail deeper into the stock itself.

I ended up putting a spacer thing i made between the sling stud and the handstop (or in your case the bipod itself.)

choate does sell a whole different peice that has a knob lock thing. that would probably work too.

Thanks dude. The one I have actually has the locking nut but I find it's too "tall". Even if I could fit a bipod on the oversized sling swivel stud, it doesn't look like the bipod will actually make contact with the stock. After looking into this for a while, I found out that it's not suppose to contact the stock that way the shooter can easily remove the bipod.

Thankfully it looks like Harris makes a bipod adapter that's shorter and should fit better. I think it's the Harris 6a adapter.

Just cut some thick leather strips and put them between the stock and bipod (on both sides of the sliding mount). That'll tighten it up and it won't budge.
