mounting a flashlight on an 870

I was a bit timid to buy from Peoples Republic of China for the first time. I figured for $10 it was an experiment.

I used GreenbaseArmy as the evilbay dealer and had no problems. I got some flip up scope caps from them too. Shipping took a while but solid products for what they were.

manbearpig, what flashlight mount is that holding your light? It looks like what I have been looking for.

You could get a surefire forend it has the light built into it and is very bright and not to clumsy looking. A little pricey but well worth it.

You mean you want me to take it out of the case and measure?

OK...

3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the bolt to the collar. In truth better suited to a 20 gauge than a 12 but it fits. No bolts sticking out.

Not the prettiest, but it lights up the bead and everything in front of it.

I basically have the same set up now with the same mount. My plan is to mount the light onto the mag extension tube but the current bolts I have are not long enough. I am going to track down some longer bolts (the local Home Depot doesn't have any, I'll have to look around).

Just wondering if you have had any issues with mounting the light directly on the barrel.

Thanks!
Sam

Other than taking some of the finish off no. You can still see the bead fine over the bolts. I have since taken the mount off and picked up a railed fore end. It is a little more smooth and snags less. I put the barrel mount on my .22 Remi 597 for terminating rats in low light. (I live out in the sticks).

Awesome, thanks for the response!

Ya, I got ghost rings so sights are fine... was more worried about maybe heat from barrel or something like that.

Thanks again, and I am jealous you get to fight rats :)

Another mounting option for your flashlight, and one that is quite affordable comes from Tac-Star. It incorporates a 1" scope ring, and an insert for 7/8" diameter lights, that holds the flashlight to a stem that inserts into the Sidesaddle. It is locked in place with a screw that expands the stem in the Sidesaddle. The light is kept facing forward due the position of a flat surface below the scope ring against the back of the side of the Sidesaddle. I mounted mine in the forward most shell position, which gives me easy access to the on/off button on the rear of the light without need of a pressure switch. The light illuminates not only the target but also the front sight. Win, win! Unlike some of the high dollar solutions for mounting weapon lights, this one costs about $40.
