Mounting a flashlight on my Black Special, ????how to fix a rail to hand guard????

I would like to add a small mount and flash light to my Black Special (Non Restricted/Full Size)

I have seen a few pics around of a SAN rifle with a 2-3 inch piece of picatinny rail on the front right hand side of the hand guard, just above where the bi-pod folds. Does anyone know if this is a proper mount made for this rifle or has someone just drilled and mounted it them selves? (Wish I could find a picture of it) If so, what is the best way to go about mounting and securing something like that to the hand guard without screwing it up? Or does anyone have any similar ideas for mounting a small light to my Swiss Arms?

Step 1: Take back the Swiss arms, get a refund. Alternately sell it on the EE.

Step 2: Take the money and buy an XCR.

Step 3: Affix flashlight to integrated pic rail on the XCR.

<joking of course, but given the number of trolls that infest the XCR forums, I thought this would be amusing. No offence intended, the SA is a nice rifle>
 
I think NEA is working on a railed fore end. Just wait, the BT is too pricey and heavy. Till then, use the duct tape :D
 
What about, "a small 2-3 inch peice of rail" do people not understand???? I don't want a railed fore grip that weighs 10lbs, I want a little peice of picatinny, thats it.

Paul Morrison, dude, your right out to lunch. The Swiss is a superior service Rifle to the XCR. In this particular case the XCR does have rails all over it, which, I feel would be advantageous to it in this situation, again however in the end the Swiss is a superior service Rifle(IMO).
Now you brought it up and I gave my opinion, and it is only my opinion, LET'S NOT DEBATE ABOUT XCR VS SWISS , IT'S OVER

Moving back to my original question, my concern is that I am going to mess up my hand guard by drilling holes in it to mount a small piece of rail, how have other people gone about actually mounting a small rail to the hand guard, should I just drill and screw it in place (making sure the screws are short enough to not hit the barrel or gas tube), or should there be a nut/backing on the other side??? Any ideas?

So then buy a little piece of rail, drill two holes and attach it with some fasteners...?

I know I sound like a freakin' dumb ass here but, is that all it takes?? I just have this nack for messing my own s**t up by trying these things and I am hesitating, I guess I have to just try eh?? Should I put backing on the screws?
 
Probably a good idea to put some small lock nuts on the back of the small bolts if that is the plan.

It is that simple, just make sure that you have clearance behind the handguard for the lockwashers/ lock nuts.

Since you only plan to mount a light for short range, not lasers, IR, or anything else, there is no need to have the rail dead in line with the barrel, so you should not need to worry about sloped rails or anything to compensate for the angle of the handguard.

I think he is thinking about the piece of sloped picatinny that is sold for the San rifles.

To mount those you have to drill holes and screw into the plastic of the hand guard. Yes you can use some other piece that is around and even use a spacer of some sort to make it thicker on one end, so the light is pointed straight forward.

I installed a sling swivel on my plastic handguard by drilling a hole smaller than the diameter of the screw in swivel. Cut it to length so it wasn't touching the barrel and filled in with JB weld to make it stiffer.

I did something similar with my Ar180.

if it would put it in the right place for you how bout using the cooling slots in the upper handguard? put some small machine screws (with washers) through there and attach the rail. it'll be a slight angle but that should be no biggie and at least you dont bubba your expensive parts

I don't know, it's just an idea.
but remove the bayonnet lug, then you have a big area for a bolt going trough the hole.
I think from scratch there is a lot of work to do, but with the right hardware it is a doable DIY.
 
Short length picatinny rail

If you look at the SAN web site you will find they do sell small sections of rail made by B+T that afix at the 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock positions that are designed to mount with screws onto your regular Swiss Classic handguard, they can be used on your " 20" in./carbine or CQB handguards, no need to buy the full metal railed system. These were available or can be ordered from TSE or Wolverine. I have them on my CQB. g2.
