I tried searching for this with no luck finding a thread. Has anyone ever mounted a pistol grip to a stock norinco M14, and if so what type of pistol grip & how is the best way to mount one ? I wish Tapco or someone would come out with a M14 stock that does not cost more than the actual M14.

Been there done that :)

I had some pics a one time but...........slight whoopsy with the old computer. ( I know all about "backing up " now )
Any way. Its not difficult at all, just need to be certain you want to go down this road cos ya have to cut a notch out of the stock.
I used an old Crapco grip, just cos I had one, and the whole thing took like 30 minutes from thinking about it to a dry fitting.
Once happy with the way it went together, reassemble with LOTS of JBweld.
There is room for a grip if ya really want to do it. If you were local to me we could do her up in no time...........it really is that easy.
Since I did that I went nuts and put a sliding stock on it as well

Im going to have a troll thru me drawers and see if I can find anything I kept that might help.
The stock behind the trigger group is solid and perfect for taking a big ass self tapping bolt ( THIS IS A PERMANENT MOD,HENCE THE JB WELD).

If I can think back I'll do up a couple of drawings to give ya an idea.
At the end of the day its only a cheap ass plastic stock....right :))

Lost...that looks great. The sliding stock looks great also. I would like to modify the cheap norinco stock exactly like yours. Is the pistol grip flat at the mounting point, curved, or a beavertail type mounting area ? Is the grip and sliding stock designed for a AR15 ? Is the grip very solid, with no chance of it being bumped loose or bumped off ? Do you happen to know the exact grip you used ? It looks like it fits perfect...including the sliding stock. What all parts were needed to mount that sliding stock ? Is the gun roughly the same weight & balance now ?

Thanks for the picture...very inspiring to see that set up, that looks factory original..very impressive.

That stock looks great. I would love for my to look like that, i am just affraid of messing up. It would be great to know what parts you used.

Thanks for all the kind words gents :)

Right now Im trying to put something together to show how simple it is.
Mine was lashed up out of old Tapco bits off an SKS for a total cost of about 18 bucks LOL.
Soon as I have something together I will post it.

The hardest part is deciding to cut the stock..............cos there aint no turning back from that eh.

Thanks again for the feedback :)

Keeping it cheap is way more fun. :)

Lost...Again. Well done. Smooth lines on that one and the color match looks just right. One of my former advisors, who was a gunsmith for 30 years, modified a US GI fibreglass stock to fit a Butler Creek folder. Have a look at this sticky at the top of the Main Battle Rifles section for a link if you are interested in making a folding model. Here is a video you might like on the "Mako Grip Conversion." There are a lot of good examples of home made stocks on M14 rifles out there on Google.

"...US GI fibreglass stock..." Too pricey and difficult to come by these days. I thought there was somebody Stateside who was/is making a screw on pistol grip for M1A's. Might have been a long time ago though.

What type of scope mount and scope are you using?

Just a cheap and nasty NC Star mount ( It has held zero since I fitted it and it works for me ) with a Redfield 6-18 x 44 .(Cost more than the bloody gun )
I am probably the cheapest SOB around but even I draw the line with NC Star scopes.............DONT BOTHER they are just not up to the job.

I modifed mine to take any mossberg shotgun stock using basic tools and minimal effort. Overall it took between 2 and 3 hours and it's as solid as a rock. The only downside is that I had to chop the old buttstock off entirely. I'll post a photo of it soon.

Lookin forward to pics.
If you can get past havin to chop the stock........its really a piece of piss after that eh LOL

I made a bunch of E2 type pistol grip stocks by modifying usgi fiberglass stocks and then more recently just making the whole entire stock from scratch.
But, my usgi fiberglass e2 stocks(google M14SE2 and no I don't make them anymore) have stood up and the mod is dead simple really.
Maybe when my hand heals up I'll add a "DIY" instruction for that mod too.
I haven't tried it with a norinco plastic stock but I would think it wouldn't be too hard.
it does involve chopping, and relocating the buttstock, a piece of 1 1/4" x 3/8" aluminum flatbar, a piece of 3/8" aluminum rod and a handfull of taper head # 10 machine screws, and a package of Goop marine epoxy ;)

that really looks great!
