I am thinking about mounting a red dot on a SxS for hunting deer in the bush and out to 60 to 80 meters.
One barrel aligned with the red dot for shooting slugs ... and the other barrel loaded with buckshot for closer shots

Has anybody any experience with mounting a picatiny rail on a side by side?
Is this doable?

Any input would be appreciated .....

Thanks.

First thing that came to my mind was an offering by IGA, IIRC is was called their Double Defence model, came with an integral scope rail on top. I would assume that if your sight rib is beefy enough a gunsmith can drill and tap into it to accept a standard flat weaver base. Be advised though, if you go that route you can only use a red dot scope or a LER scope.

I've shot a sxs with a red dot. The issue I had was I had to lift my head off the comb to use it.
It is doable but it took away what a sxs gun is for. Instinctual pointing.
However I do have a 2.5x20 scope mounted on my double rifle and love it. It comes up perfectly and I don't need to worry about batteries or forgetting to turn it on or having it set to brightly.
Depending on the rib style you maybe able to droll and tap it or it the rib is high enough to groove it and use a set of adjustable bases to fit a standard Weaver base
Another option is to dove tail a Williams or skinner sight and replace the bead with a blade

Thanks guys.

yes, I was thinking about getting a ghost ring sight or Skinner sight with integrated Weaver rail installed .... including a higher front sight.

Anybody know a reliable and good gunsmith in the Montreal area?
