my BSE Martini .22 has bases on the barrel-meaning the scope must be mounted well forward, requiring a pistol or EER scope.[tried one-didn't work for me].

So far this has proved a challange-I'm now wondering if I could install a clamp on picatinny rail about 6'' long on the mounts, and put the rings further back, allowing a regular scope with a 3-4'' eye relief.Am I on the right track here?Does anybody make a clamp on picatinny rail 6''-8'' long?

What you need for the barrel mounts on the Martini is the old style scope and mounts. Like those found on Unertl, and Fecher scopes with the windage and elevation built into the mount not the scope. These scopes are very long. This also keeps the scope rail or mounts out of the way of the action. As they are forward not above the loading port. There are always a few for sale on fleabay and not cheap.

The other thing you can do is build your own mount. This is from a piece of aluminium angle iron which is screwed to the side of your action. To the top of this you attach a weaver rail. A site called rimfire central under the heading Martini has some instructions on how to accomplish this.
