Mounting a scope on a Marlin 336?

I have a 336BL that I want to put a low powered scope on. A lot of the scope bases I've seen hang off the edge of the receiver over the barrel. I'm not a fan of how this looks but I understand that it gives a better mounting position for the front ring. Will standard rings and bases that do not hang over the edge of the receiver not give enough adjustment to properly position the scope for eye relief?

EGW picatinny on a guide gun with Leupold 2.5x20 mounted. Weaver low top mount rings.

IMO you need the extra room and IMO it looks fine.

What mount you use depends a lot on the length of your scope and the amount of tube between the turrets fore and aft. Some of the newer scopes I am seeing are quite a bit shorter than from days of yore and less room between the turrets and ocular/objective transitions.
The Weaver base and ring setups work quite well.

I forgot to mention that on the photo I posted, those rings have been changed to the hinged style
to allow the open sights to be used.
Thanks gunrunner100..........................

Thanks Kamlooky,

I don't know that you can get any closer to the bore than a setup with Weaver or EGW base and the low or extra low top mount rings. Scope height is an important factor for me as well as eye relief on stocks with such drop at comb.

That's an old Redfield on the Marlin.
The variable knurled ring has a set screw that just touches the mounting plate.
Switching to the hinged rings that gunrunner100 supplied me with looked the same
for height, but they were just a wee bit higher and the retaining screw now clears
by a blond............yu know what.
This Marlin was purchased by a now trusted CGN.
Love the gun and have great respect for the laddie that mail her to me.
Thanks Mike or Mac. Chit, there's 63 of yuzzz..........Laugh2
