I've been using my father's cooey .22lr at the range. I'd like to replace the scope, minimally because I have another one,
and this one hasn't the best optics. The existing screw holes seem to match a busnell 4x banner scope (also of my father's).

Question is, should I bring it in to a gunsmith or can I mount it? I can probably find a gunsmith in town, through
my club, but I'm weighing in my options.

mounting scopes is EASY if you have the proper tools and bits to do it. a quick you tube search should answer all questions and give you a good visual referance

what I've seen typically used a gun vise, and some leveler... I'm trying to work without some money constraits, so maybe I need to mcbuyver a few things.

gun rest - not really needed, just nice to have a way to hold the gun

leveling device - for your purpose , if you have a decent eye thats good enough, as long as the x-hairs are with in a few degrees of plumb thats good enough for the ranges a .22 will be of any use. what really matters is those x-hairs are plumb to the world when you shoot

by tools, i ment more along the lines of - proper screw driver, allan wrench, hex wrench etc for what ever your mounting system uses

just spitballing here but what if I had sandbags, for the "rest"
and used a laser level on a nearby wall to get the x-hairs centered? not perfect but
I need to do something, so..

I have always levelled by eye, and when checked against levels have never been off. Its not that hard, you just need to try it, what is the worst that can happend? it needs to be trued. no big deal.

I need to have a proper scope on it and the fact that it should mount on the rifle is a plus.
the "new" one is more easily zero'd, and the dials much easier to read and use.
It can always be mounted by a professional should It not work.

I'm sorry if my brain is all over the place, but I made some money off ebay for some of my old stuff.
I might get a cheap semi-auto repeater. I was thinking between the savage 64F, marlin 60 or possibly ruger 10/22.
If I do I'll bring the scope in.. Hopefully it won't be much more money to get the right mount for it.
