Mounting an optic on a Ljungman?

Not much traffic over on the optics forum, I'll try here.

As many Ljungman owners may have noticed there are three holes drilled in the side of the magwell presumably for mounting an optic (or not see post #4 below). I have been fiddling with this and have come up with a VERY early conceptual design /prototype. I would appreciate any feedback (other than why scope a battle rifle) on this.

Obstacle seen in the following photo, the magwell side is not parallel to the bore axis, thus the mount angles in. There are two ways around this, size the metal standoffs used to correct this and align the edge of the mount to the bore axis or mount the weaver rail on the opposite angle on the mount.

Any chance you will need to make a deflector for cases enjecting at mach 2?

Did you have to cut into the stock at all?

Case ejection is not effected, the stock was drilled with a 3/8 inch flat bottom bit in a drill press to expose the holes in the magwell. Contrary to popular internet information, the holes were NOT tapped, I tapped them at M5x0.8 IIRC.

The holes are there to facilitate action removal, while not the heaviest action of all, it is the longest, and the holes are for attaching eye bolts so a sling can be installed so a hoist can be used to remove action from the stock.

Nice work. One gunsmith i know show me a drawing of a scope mount he did for his daughter's boyfriend that was fit onto a Ljungman. He also used the three holes in the action. I din't go with is mount first cause i found it a bit pricey. I'm also considering adding an optic to mine but i'm always stopped when it comes to modifying such a beautiful firearm. (mine look brand new)

Do your scope mount still solid after a couple shots?

This was never a functioning mount, just a mock up. I have since abandoned this setup and successfully mounted a bit of picatinney rail to the rear sight, I then added a red dot to it. I haven't field tested it though.

I made one for mine, but I sold it years ago. I drilled and tapped both sides of the receiver, and made the mount attach on both sides. The mount was symetrical, made of steel, multiple welded pieces, flat on top, and drilled and tapped on top for a standard weaver rail.

Also, look at the shape of the bolt cover. Goes up straight on the sides for a short distance, then angles in. That is the shape of the scope mount I made that goes over it. Same profile, but larger in size so it fits over.
