Just picked up Hs Precision PHL and was going to mount a 3.5-10x40 leupold on it. From looking at it I assumed that the leupold low rings would work as there is no chance of the objective end hitting the barrel. However when I tried it out I ran into a clearance issue with the bolt contacitng the eyepiece. I wantedto keep the scope as low as possible and was wondering if any one knows what the minimum height is that will allow clearance for the bolt. I see talley light weights low are ..400" which looks to be about .050" more than low leupolds.

Thanks

HS Precision and Rem. 700s pretty much identical with regard to scope set ups.

Couple examples that worked for me...

This one, my Rem. 25.06 Varmint with a VX-II 6-18x40 AO, uses Burris Signature medium rings atop Weaver style Leupold steel bases...which is a set up I'm going to stick with from here on as it's the most solid and reliable of the two.

And this one, Rem. 6mm Varmint with an Elite 4200 4-16x40 AO, uses Burris Signature medium rings with Burris single dovetail bases.

In both cases front bell clears barrel by about 1/8". Burris Signature rings don't come in "low", only "medium" and "high". Rings any lower than these wouldn't work.

Bolt handle not an issue with either.

And nothing but Signature rings go on my rifles! No alignment issues, no lapping, and no big ugly scars left behind on my expensive scopes!!!

One thing you may also want to consider with the PHL. If your stock is the same as mine, it has a much higher rise to the stock from the wrist to the recoil pad than the commercial HS stocks have. You will notice that a cleaning rod inserted through the action will not clear the stock, if yours is the same as mine. I had fitment issues with this as it requires a higher ring than ones allowing the objective to clear the barrel. With Leupold medium rings my 3.5-10x40 clears with no problem, but it is too low for me to see through without moving my head. I run high rings on mine to allow me to see through the scope naturally. After dropping that kind of money on a rifle I would ensure that it fits you well.
