I've got a couple of very nice racks hanging on the wall and I've always kicked myself for not having mounts done. The capes are long gone of course but I was wondering what the cost was associated with having the taxidermist provide a new cape ?

Has anyone else had non original capes used on mounts ? If so how do they look compared to mounts with the original capes ?

Have seen several done that way ... old rack, new cape. Both deer & moose.

Provide your own new cape ... from a less spectacular buck/bull.
Taxidermists generally have no problem with that at all, and as to
results ..l. virtually impossible to tell.

Next time you, or someone else that doesn't want a head mount, shoot a good sized deer with a average rack, take both to your taxidermist. The rack is removed from the skull anyway when mounting. Nobody will know the difference. Just make sure the head is proportional to the rack.

You can have just the antlers mounted. Or mount 'em yourself. Have a look here. Add the W's. .taxidermy.com/cat/12/antler.html
And here. .antlermounts.net/shop2.htm
