Hello;

Has anybody mounted a scope on top of the SL8-5 long rail and, trying to zero it in, found out that there is no more elevation movement on the scope dial? On that rifle the scope is mounted on the rail approximately 4 - 5 inches above the barrel, even with the lowest rings. Is it a common thing on these rifles or it depends on the scope? Any suggestions how to deal with it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I mounted and tried 2 different optics on my SL8-4. The rail height appears to be the same on the SL8-4 as on the 5. The only exception is the length of the 5. The first on I mounted was a Primary Arms lx 1x6x24 using 30mm Burris signature zee rings. I was able to zero it at 100 yards as that's was my max distance and I still had a lot of elevation left. The second one I tried was a Vortex Strike Eagle 1x8 again using the same 30mm Burris signature zee rings without any issue.

What ring height and scope are you using. The nice thing about the Burris rings is that they come with offset inserts to give you an extra MOA elevation. I left the Primary Arms scope on it as I prefer the ACSS reticle.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am currently using whatever I have at home - it's a cheap Leapers 3 - 9 magnification scope. Also, the rings - I have no idea what is the make, I chose the lowest rings from what I have in my parts shoebox. Maybe if I do research and buy a good scope and rings, the result would be different.

I tried to zero in the scope at home with the laser sight-in kit at 25 feet. Maybe when I try to zero in the scope with live ammo at 100 yds. at outdoor range or at 25 yds.at indoor range, I'll be able to do that, even with whatever I have mounted on the rifle so far. Will try, anyways.

Thanks again.

A 25 foot or 7.5 yard zero for a scope is the problem and you will bottom out. My Primary arms suggests a 100 yard zero and and my Vortex Strike Eagle suggests a 50 yard zero. At 50 or 100 yards your scope should zero without any issues. I just tried a 25 yard zero with the laser bore in my SL8 and I had no issues. Keep me posted.

The rail sits too high in my opinion. I removed mine and mounted a Hera 2 piece rail set with cantilever mount. Height is perfect now and the rifle doesn't look as bulky anymore. The price for the Hera rail is a bit steep but excellent quality. You cannot use normal rings with this application but the Leupold cantilever mount fits perfectly onto the short rail.
