Looking for some advice on how to mount a red dot sight forward of a carry handle.
I've heard of the gooseneck mounts, but my main question is whether there is a hand guard out there which would work for mounting optics!

The only thing I've seen is mounting it on top of carrying handle but that looks retarded...mind you, I guess you could co-witness something...but with the carry handle you would lose a lot of the 'heads up' of putting, say, a eotech on it.
Just buy a new rifle and keep that one for when shtf as backup.
Problem solved. lol

I've seen a stepped mount that comes forward and down off the carry handle, I think it's called a gooseneck mount? If you google search "carry handle red dot" and scroll down a bit you will see what I mean.

No idea where to get one in Canada though, I'd like one myself if I manage to find a source

Ive seen a couple methods.
First is the carry handle mount which is effective utilizing the lowest possible red dot mount and a chin weld. You can't co-witness and be prepared for a 4+" mechanical offset.
Second is a goose neck mount, which is effective and usually gives a lower third co-witness. Make sure to keep the screws tight.
Third is to mount the red dot on a rail system. This is provided that the rail system mounts securely to the upper. Don't use cheap chinese rail systems forthis. Basically install your favorite rail system and mount optic to that. Many pictures of Canadian SOF members running Eotech sights mounted to the front rail system floating around. It works, but puts the optic weight out front.

This is the route that I'm looking to take.....mounting the red dot to the actual railed handguard. Ive looked online and have found a few people saying not to do it as the sight won't be able to hold its zero, but then like you said....there are pictures out there of SOF guys running eotechs mounted on railed handguards.
Anyone have experience or opinions on this?

Our dealers carry the Meprolight Mepro M21 sight with carry handle mount, as seen with IDF soldier below.

I find with an optic on a carry handle, the cheek weld becomes a chin weld. I just have one upper with a carry handle and just shoot the iron sights with that setup. For everything else with optics, I mount directly on the rail.

Have been searching around.....found some really good info on mount eotechs to Daniel Defence Omega rails. Anyone have any thoughts?

Would serve you well. The free-float rail systems will give you the most consistent zero ability. The Omega rails are rock solid, have used before and always been happy. Any high quality rail system from any of the big players should work well for you, LaRue, DD, Knights, etc. will all work great for your use.

Just because the cool guys did it it doesn't mean it is a good solution. They did what they needed to do given what they had.

If you want your optic to hold zero, look at this: ARMS39A2......almost a museum piece. You are luck for some reasons Wolverine still has this ancient piece around.

The ARMS 39A2 holds on to the upper receiver by 2 contact points. This is as solid as you can get with a "goose neck" mount.

You are lucky I stumbled upon this last night, when I was looking for an ARMS Swan sleeve to put on a X95.

Will the arms gooseneck mount still allow for carry handle sight use? Still leaning towards a free floating rail like the omega.

Yep, the ARMS rail has a cutout for the sights to be used.

Although I would much prefer the Daniel Defense Omega rail setup. It's essentially as "drop in" as you can get with a free floated quad rail, if installed correctly it'll be just a rigid as a receiver mount, and no worries of it loosening like the ARMS rails can (held by thumb screws not cross bolts or nuts)

Do the kac ras method, i think hilo still has one for sale in the ee and if you install it right it should hold zero
Plus you will look kool.

Or do the carry handle mount if you like high optics, i personally do like having my optics higher than normal but it's something you have to try to know if you do like it or not.
