mounting red dot on a 3/8 dove tail groove for a 20ga?

Hi CGNers,

Need some real world experience advice.

I have a 22lr over 20ga combination gun with a 3/8 dove tail groove.
It hasn't been drilled and tapped and I want to leave it that way.

If I mount a red dot on top via the dove tail groove,
will the recoil from the 20ga cause the dove tail to fly off?

( I figure if savage put a groove on top, it must be for optics, so it should be good).

Still I am wondering if this is a good idea.

Anyone put a red dot on top of a 20 ga via 3/8 inch grooves?

If so any suggestion for a red dot? one good for 22lr and 20ga?

It'll be fine. You just need to get right rings/red-dot to fit the dovetail.

I know on some of the older savage combination guns it says right on the side to use scope only with the .22 barrel, but i never knew if it was that the dovetail wasn't robust enough for 20ga recoil or just for liability for when people get smacked in the face with their scope when they fire a slug out of the shotgun barrel.

Yeah that's what I an afraid of.....iwas contemplating silver solderingv a rail...but think I should be ok
