Mounting red dot on Vortex 3X Spitfire

So I have a Vortex 3X Spitfire and want to mount a micro red dot on it for close shots in IPSC 3 gun. What I do not want to do is tilt the rifle for the shot 45deg. I would rather look over the top of the Spitfire to use the red dot. Due to the popularity of 45deg mounts for this use, Vortex placed 45deg rails on the Spitfire.

Can anyone recommend a rail, mount etc. to allow me to mount a micro red dot on top of the 3X Spitfire at the 12 o'clock position?

Thanks
Moe

There doesn't appear to be much room left on the body of your spitfire for a ring to mount the red dot with. I would try it mounted at 45○ first . You don't necessarily have to can't the rifle. Just sight the red dot while the rifle is vertical, should be good enough for short distances. I have tried it that way, seemed to be fine. If not, I know there are short picatinny mounts out there that slide over the body of a scope. I have one made by NC Star that allowed me to mount a red dot at 45deg on a 3-9 scope. Your issue is the elevation adjustment turret, you need to find a mount that will place the red dot above the turret..

You can get some 45 degree offset mounts that are pretty tight to the receiver which would put the dot closer to the bore axis. I'd think by mounting it on top, you may run out of adjustment and not be able to get the dot set to where you want. Like rascal1 said above, you don't really have to cant the rifle all that much to get to the dot and you would barely break your cheek weld.

I installed a Buris FastFire 2 on the right side Picatinny rail of my Vortex Spitfire 3, both of which are mounted to my RA XCR-L
Sorry I don't have access to pictures but PM me if you would like a picture and I will get one out tonight after work.

This setup is ok, seems to shoot well, however, to me anyway, the rifle feels a little too far away from me. I am sure I could get used to it, but rather than fight it, I ordered a 45-degree offset rail mount from Amazon.ca for 18$, $24 all in with taxes and shipping. So for $24 I can try it out and see if the rifle feels better with the Red Dot closer to the center of the rifle.

For fun, I can also try turning this mount upside down on the Spitfire and then install the Fastfire closer to the centre line of the rifle. I am not if that will work at all, but it would be fun to try and once the offset mount arrives I will post more pictures.

Here is a picture of my rifle from the previous owner who had a 45-degree offset with a Burris E1.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I understand what you are all getting at. Simply a 45 mount on the receiver is a better setup than mounting on the scope in order to keep the RDS close to the barrel.
