mounting scope on rings. anything between?

Some guys use powdered rosin to increase the grip without over tightening. I like Burris signature custom rings with the built in plastic insert. Self aligning and no damage to scope tube.

Good quality rings such as Seekins, Badger Maxi, and etc don't require any lapping as their manufacturing is very precise and they hug your scope with the same pressure from either side :)

do the burris inserts only work with the signature rings? i actually just need to shim the scope abit and if the inserts will fit my bushnell rings(meant for .22, fits the grooved reciever, came with the scope, a sportsman scope. i'm currently shimming the scope with electrical tape but i dont think its staying in place) then that would solve everything right away. originally i was just thinking of getting new rings or a base since i actually am getting bolt clearance issues with the magnification ring and ocular bell but all i need is 1-3mm more of height and the inserts would do that right away.

No, the inserts are quite thick, spherical on the outer surface so that they can swivel like a gimbal inside the rings. Won't fit another type of ring.

I think you will probably be happiest with a new set of higher rings to gain the clearance. In my opinion, you need scopes mounted in a solid, foolproof manner.

Burris rings of that style are around $60.00 a set. The straight Zee's are cheaper, but don't use the insert.

yikes, it seems like getting the few mm clearance that i need might be expensive. what are the height differences between low, medium and high rings, or is that manufacturer specific?

I was looking at a set of Burris 3/8 dovetail medium rings and they were crazy high compared to anything I've ever seen called medium. So you really have to check the manufacturors specs or go to the gun store and see them.

What caliber is this gun? If its a light caliber, can you shim the bases and use longer screws?

its a .22 rimfire with a grooved reciever and currently i'm just using the grooved reciever and no base. adding a base would raise it half an inch maybe so thats too high, and if low/medium/high rings really are just arbitrary numbers to the manufacturers, then i think i'm gonna have to spend an hour or so at the store getting them to mount different ones on my rifle.
