Moved to Alberta

You have to have An Alberta DL ana AB health card before qualifying as a resident. At least that is how it used to be. No waiting time.

The powers that be might as well remove the non-resident reg's. then, anybody with a small town mailing box # could claim residency status then and go hunting.

When in doubt, read the regulations

http://www.albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/definitions.html

Resident - a person who either

.has his or her only or primary residence in Alberta and
1 is a Canadian citizen or is admitted to permanent residence in Canada, or
2 has lived in Canada for the 12-month period immediately preceding the relevant date; or
. is on full-time service with the Armed Forces of Canada and would, if an election were held under the Elections Act (Canada), be eligible to vote in Alberta under that Act.

I got everything done without them even asking for evidence of residency, the lady just asked me, are you here permanent from BC? I said yes, then she printed my certificate. I have my tags for white tail and birds, just waiting for my WIN card arrive and I am good to go

You are right ' I haven't had to read a regulation for ten or fifteen years...haven't switched provinces ever but used to "hunter-host for a cousin and he tried every way possible to find a loop-hole back then that would allow him to buy resident tags and short of living in the province more than a six month timeframe, he just couldn't qualify.

I just found my stash of 20 year old regs.(the old "fold-up ones") that I saved for posterity, will see what the changes are.

Technically you only need the WIN # when purchasing your licenses and this number never changes, its either valid or needs to be renewed. Your number will be on your licenses at the top left already. No where in the regs does it say you must carry the card on you, applicable licenses yes, but WIN no. They may ask you for your number if you apply for a discharge permit though. I cant remember that off the top of my head but even then your number is on your license anyway.

Ohh! Nice!!! I'll check this out. If that is the case then I can go right away!!

Nice to see a system actually perform as it should. Good luck.

Check the regs. Most seasons are not open yet. I think there are only a few WMU's open to archery only deer right now.

Any my mistake from a previous post, your license number appears on the top right on your hunting licenses, just above your health care number but I'm sure you could find it anyways.

Yes, of course, tomorrow I should be taking the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot orientation. Most probably it will be my first hunting trip in AB as soon as the season starts! Got my Bird & whitetail tag. I am looking forward to it!

If you want someone to go with just shoot me a pm and we'll work something out. I am in a similar situation to you, just moved back to Alberta after some time in PEI.

I’ll buck the trend here and say bush hunting isn’t a good option.

Check County maps in the area for private grazing leases. These tend to have a lot more animals. Most of these leases are foot accessible and only in November. There is maps online that show contact information for the leaseholders. Often times the leaseholders will try to deny access (often threatening violence). Contact the local rangeland agrologist if necessary.

Don't know, honestly, I want to avoid any conflict or dealing with anyone. Push comes to shove, ill drive to BC or drive further north.

There is very little conflict and thousands of acres of lease land. Go to the government website, identify the lease holder and phone for access. The vast majority are welcoming as long as you provide a little information and are polite in your approach. If I encounter an idiot, I simply move on as there is so many spots available.
